Not sure it’s always a recommendation if a company makes the show's jackets. Some prop jackets tend to be made of very light material because of the heat on sets, and the discomfort of leather in sometimes strenuous and energetic situations.
I picked up a twenty - five years old or so almost unworn Eastman BOB a couple of years ago. The buyer was too fat for it apparently and it stayed in his wardrobe all that time until he died. It’s a 44 like the above and it is quite trim in the stomach area for a 44. The hide seems thicker than...
Pretty good price for a nicely broken in but not worn out HWM. To those who don’t know but might be interested it would probably fit someone who takes a 36 or 38 jacket size depending on how much you wear under it, and is maybe 5’ 10” or a little bit taller. Aero HWM are pretty roomy jackets and...
Welcome and great pics and fit. But to British ears your heading seemed to announce that you were expecting a happy event!
Many nations divided by a common language….slang anyway.
The Bison grain is pressed according to Debs at SB so would be uniform. That did surprise me a little and she may have had the wrong end of the stick...
I can’t see why it shouldn’t work fine with a button up jacket. The iconic British double breasted sheepskin coats of the late forties through to the sixties had very think hide compared to the sheepskin coats of today.
In the case of Aero or other companies jackets, in my experience it works...
Second that. The CXL steer softens a lot quicker than the horse. Leaving aside the very heavy steer that Aero had, and maybe still has that by all accounts was like a suit of armour and took years to break in.
Seems a bit odd to me. Two different jackets same size. Two eBay IDs same phone number. Same description both ordered at Christmas and both came in August. Unless the OP knows the seller?
Nice rebuild. I had one over thirty years ago that I rebuilt in my living room. It wasn’t done as nicely as that though. But it was a bike I used every day in London until I changed it for a more practical if less characterful Honda.
No Peacoat you aren’t imagining it the hide is stiffer in cold temperatures. My CXL steer and HH is always softer when warmed up. It’s the viscosity of the wax and oils in it.
I’ll second what Smithy says about the Eastman Irvin being lighter than an Aviation Leathercraft Irvin. I tried a couple of them on a few years ago at Thruxton when I went down there to buy another jacket and they were like suits of armour. Stiff and heavy and very bulky. The Eastman Irvin is...
Yes, I assumed the flap was tucked in. But his isn’t a patch, or cargo pocket. It’s inside not outside the jacket shell. Some jackets in the other pictures look like they might be the same. So they might be earlier jackets, or maybe they are private purchase as I surmised before?
They seem be the USN 37J1 jackets which came before the A1. Even so there is some variation with the one on the left having pockets set inside the shell rather than patch pockets.
I expect that many pilots bought or had their own jackets made and as long as they were pretty similar it was allowed.
I have a two year old one in Havana CXL Steer which has softened up quite well when warm. I wear CLX HH and Steer jackets indoors to lounge on the sofa and watch TV and such for a week when new, and then sit on them for a few weeks loosely rolled, and then as sofa cushions tightly rolled for a...
They were used by the Commandos and other special units in the Second World War to kill sentries silently. Quieter than knives and neck chops because once it was around the neck it was impossible for the victim to call out. SOE used them in occupied Europe as well in covert and sabotage...
Most of the fee will be VAT of course and if bought in the US goods would attract a local sales tax - usually much lower than VAT though - which is not payable for exported goods.
The issues of under declaring value is: One it’s a crime in most countries, and two if you have to claim on...
