Yes, my good man! 4.5oz steer instead of 3oz FQHH. The jacket is a size 38 tapered to size 36. I'd say, contact Thurston about what size you'd need and buy one size bigger than what they advise & have it tapered a size down. Sure, the HWM is a boxy fit but going down 2 sizes from your regular...
Here are some pics of my 9 months old Zip Sleeve HWM, brown CXL steer, size 38 tapered to size 36, side straps cinched in half-way.
Pit-to-pit: 57cm
Waist: 49cm
Back: 63cm
My chest: 104cm
My waist: 80cm
71kg, 173cm. I take a size 40 in shirts.
We don't have a precise scale here, I believe the Model B is about 3.5kg and the Comet is like 3kg. Nothing too heavy, my Aero HWM in 4.5oz steer weighs 4.3kg.
Those measurements are incorrect, Carrie from Thurston informed me that Vanson lengthened the Comet by 1" last year. My 40 Comet measures 24" in the back.
My Standard Comet in size 40 has a back length of 24". Plenty long for casual wear, I wear high rise jeans to go with it. Just depends on the look you prefer but in no way is the standard Comet a ridiculously short jacket.
Not true. The Comet is indeed made out of the same competition weight leather that Vanson uses for all of their riding jackets, but the way the Comet was designed makes it a relatively light-weight and easy-to-wear jacket. It's got less interior leather facings than the Model B and thinner body...
I just got myself a Vanson Comet in dark brown cowhide, and it is slowly becoming my favorite jacket :) it's simple, clean, classic yet modern, totally badass and easy to wear (and a helluva lot cheaper than the Schott 641HH or Alexander CR).
A shame the sleeves are so short (and I don't have any money available...), otherwise I mighta jumped on it. This is a great deal, somebody should get this jacket.
Nooo the length is perfect man! It's not 'too short', I hardly believe such a thing exists within certain boundaries! A lot of people are way too nitpicky about these kind of things, anyway. I think the length looks great, especially judging by the first pic. You wear the jacket like a boss.
That is one dynamite jacket, my friend. I hope you wear it with sheer joy till the end of your days :) 25" back length is perfect by the way, IMO. That's why I love the Vanson Cometnso much, the shorter back length makes it look casual and badass, ready for action!
