It i'nt Tuesday, yet!
Sharp hat.
I just read this elsewhere, and thought I'd bring it here for follow-up:
Did you receive color swatches ahead of time? Michael described the granite as having brown undertones, but it really has to be seen in person to understand what that means-- and...
Agreed! More thoughts in the Gannon thread soon.
Meantime, I'm wearing my rebashed Akubra Hampton in cruiser gray today, glimpsed here at the bottom right:

If it's any help, I'm now on Michael Gannon's list for a custom hat, and he just sent me samples of the colors I'm considering (for this hat and an inevitable second). The process of choosing color(s) is thus proving to be utterly maddening reassuring, helpful, and fun.
Had I any doubts, I am...
Very cool! I'm now in queue for my own first Gannon, Granite or Steel depending on in-hand color samples and ongoing comparative pictures here. I already know there will be a second, in one of the browns-- natural or pecan (with whiskey the outlier). I'll dial in the second hat's specs after...
So... with hemp, maybe starting with the Stetson versions in particular, which is it? Light on the head, or awfully heavy? I haven't handled a hemp hat in person, and am wondering about its over-all weight, feel, etc.
(I have handled different brands' "plastic buckets", whose weight was...
I like this one, in its straightforward simplicity:
Also? Your fence shots are nice and everything, but I always smile when you're out on the roof, taking hat pictures. :)
(... Deck, I'm thinking? But "Roof" is way more fun.)

I agree about the longevity of the veterans(!).
My first revisiting of some of the archives reveals an abundance of similarly-hatted, distinguished older gentlemen-- a rather distinct look in isolation, but suddenly ubiquitous if seeking to ID someone in group photographs taken at the...
"I made my last hat with whiskey."
"Winchester Hat Corporation's whiskey felt?"
"No. Whiskey."
Fascinating walk-through, @Yahoody. Thanks! No fluff and stuff here, just a man who knows what he needs, what he wants, and sets about gettin' it done. (Surprisingly rare, these days.)

Thanks, guys.
I know it's a combination of a few different factors for me, starting with being much more of a perfectionist with my own amateur efforts/outcomes than others' (vs. commissioning and expecting professional/custom results-- a whole other ball o' wax) regardless of the subject at...
That's no rant, that's fitting homage to a beloved companion, a wonderful glimpse into just one more reason why she was so special.
I'm so glad you found each other, and am sorry that you no longer have her sweet company.
Thanks for the stories. Keep 'em coming. :)

I would like to think that your Excellent Stratoliner would have held up, regardless...?
A Royal quality, on the other hand.
After an unexpected rain, based on warnings here I anticipated that the brim might droop some from the outside in. Instead, the whole enterprise sorta sagged...
To me, its my own downside to open crown hats. If a hat comes pre-bashed, or with someone else's crease? Cool!
If I crease it myself...?
Fiddle...
fiddle...
fiddle.

Sadly, I've only ever seen Cruiser Gray on a Hampton before-- rather the other end of the spectrum from a Fed IV!
Cruiser Gray is a touch darker and slightly bluer than Moonstone. Both are great colors.

@Hurricane Jack, I had the same thought/false location based on the gentleman to the left.
Or maybe we're just recognizing his hat? ;)
As captioned in the link @BobHufford supplied,
"FDR speaks with a Civil War veteran during his short visit to Boise in September, 1937."
So, now I want to...
