Good suggestions, all. I'm looking for something lighter than a Barnstormer or a Hudson, ideally, and I have a personal aversion to cargo/handwarmer pockets, though I really like A1/G1 pockets on a longer jacket
Here's a vintage number I'd love to have copied (making the pocket...
Then there's the Pegasus car coat: http://www.pegasusjackets.com/car-coat-description.php Not keen on the action back, though.
If anyone has seen the Aero Wayfarer, do you think it could stand an extra 2 - 3 inches in length?
I've decided to go for a long-ish, 1920s/1930s style: 28-30 inches. What I'd really like is a Himel Canuck or one of the Japanese 'railroad coats' made by people like Freewheelers and Rainbow Country but those are waaay out of my budget. Obvious choices are the Aero Mulligan and Teamster, but...
Cooperson, I've been avoiding this thread out of sheer, blind jealousy but I have to say that the longer jacket looks more or less perfect to me. They're both beauties and as Schitzo says, the hide is immense. The longer one hits just right at the back and is exactly what I'd go for.
Leather jacket with tie? Very tricky, IMHO. It's a vintage look, and personally I wouldn't try it unless the trousers were vintage or vintage style, ditto the shirt and the footwear. And the tie has to be spot-on as well. I suppose I might just be scarred by memories of the New Wave era: black...
You're probably right, though I remember that scene being described as 'hipster' long before the current meaning of the word. My guess is the whole thing probably came out of the Japanese rockabilly scene a long time ago, when hipster meant something other than 'massive, bushy beard, unfeasibly...
My rule is that, as long as the bottom buttonhole of the shirt isn't lower than the bottom of the jacket, it's OK to untuck, which only works with modern, tailless shirts, obviously. Dress shirts do have to be tucked, I'll concede that much!
I'll just jump in here to say that I don't think there's anything particularly up-to-date with the ELMC models' look. The only hipster element is the beard. The rest of it is... well, I've been dressing like that for decades.
I'm with Seb Lucas in that I'm not interested at all in authenticity...
