On Ebay .... my go-to jacket for a long time and has done over 1 million air miles with me.
Sorry to see it go .. but there's no such thing as a keeper in the Plumbline Collection :)
Aero Californian 44"
Got to agree with Nick re. Steer vs Horsehide ...... Steer is a MUCH more forgiving hide and wears in / ages so much quicker and nicer than horse. Horween Horsehide is a tough old hide .... I much prefer the steer. Equally Alexanders used to do Mongolian Horse which was amazing ( I have an...
Nice Worf ....tried a pair of these on in Allen Edmunds Factory shop in South Carolina and they were excellent but they didn't have black ( I already have redwing Beckmans in Burgundy ) :(
Wear em well :D
My Alexander "Detroit" of 6 months ago ..... Horween Black Bison ... it's heavilly grained and wearing in beautifully. I am of course assuming that Aero are using Horween Bison.
I guess I buck the trend here and use mine all the time ( when you travel on planes you need a hanging strip otherwise it's difficult to hang something as heavy as a leather jacket ) ... never had one let go either ( although I don't use the ANJ-4 one as the jacket is seriously heavy and the...
Having seen a number of the "Cherry" jackets I'd suggest it's more of mid red/brown/burgundy whereas the Cordovan is definately dark burgundy. I don't see the pink / purple in the cherry ( certainly not the one I had (Highwayman) ) and I actually really liked the colour. It was original but not...
Very nice ... I'm a big fan of Elk and have both Elkskin boots and gloves and one jacket which is a 1980's Chevignon ..... it's really tou but very supple and has an incredible hand.
Very nice .. wear it well.
I find they are a little neater than my suit size ... I wear a 42S suit and a very neat fit would be a 42 Alexanders with 1" off the length and sleeve ...... I like things a little looser and generally have a 44 (short ) in an Alexanders "neat" fitting jacket e.g. Halfbelt, Detroit etc. but go...
Gotta love the Horween steerhide ........ I still think it shades the horse especially in break in and developed "character"!
Great jacket ... very nice indeed and great fit ... wear it hard and wear it well :D
equally don't always assume Chinese Fake = Bad ....
I did an investigation about 4 years ago where the manufacturers container ( a plastic bottle) had taken 3 years to design and manufacture yet the Chinese forgers had managed to produce a higher spec and better manufactured bottle than the...
I like goatskin ... My AN6552 is very nice seal brown Aero goatskin .... it has NONE of the character of the mighty Bison. This leather just gets better the more it's worn ( I have a Detroit in it)
At that sort of discount it's a great buy .... but it is SERIOUSLY grainy and wears with...
Perhps not 1950's then ... perhaps 1960's.
Never had a traditional Cafe Racer with a windflap .... had plenty of bike jackets with front zippers with windflaps but the cafe racer was a minimalist jacket my 2 x 1950's original jackets didn't even have gussets or flaps on the sleeve zips...
Hey Seb .. i'm not sure it's a J-100 replica ... there are so many differences compared to the J-100 ( If Ken & Co had wanted to make a J-100 replica ... it would no doubt be a REALLY GOOD J-100 replica)
I think it's more of an interpretation of an early cafe racer style jacket .... and a...
Craig,
I think some already try to do his as much as possible by ....
1. Not disclosing sources of hide
2. Asking tanneries for exclusivity on particular hides / colours
3. Working with tanneries to develop "exclusive" hides
seems like sensible business practice if you ask me ...
I think it depends on the jacket and the look.
I personally prefer a smooth finish on a cafe racer ... the minimal style and look of the cafe racer I think lend itself to FQHH ( just MHO)
The mid grain type hide is probably best suited to most jackets ... and will age really nicely. The...
Very nice Craig ... looks like amazing leather and should break in really easilly.
A cafe racer jacket .. needs a cafe racer bike ... can I suggest a Triumph Thruxton for sir, a modern take on a classic bike :D
More 1930's halfbelt if you ask me ..... the sheen has a cafe racer back, the highwayman has a more boxy cut. I guess I'm just not one for short jackets which look too small ( sleeve and back/body length) to me :D
Well made though with some nice features .... pockets are quite far back...
