I've always liked the G-8 design. I have a Lost Worlds "Raider" jacket (a G-8) and it's a cool jacket which is practical, stylish and comfortable.
Good luck with your US-A G-8 order and please post pics once it arrives.
I'm really liking that Excelled leather; looks very grainy and robust. I've just added the gov't issued, mil-spec Excelled G-1 (size 48) to my wish list.
Check out "Hell-bent for leather: The saga of the A-2 and G-1 Flight Jackets" by Derek Nelson and Dave Parsons. Lots of good info and cool photos. Available used on Amazon for $15-20.
That Excelled zipper is reminiscent of the G-1 A-series zipper (not the 1950's "AER" G-1, but the 7823-A; the B series jackets started with the paper clip style zipper puller).
There are some of these A-2's on the 'Bay right now. I'd like to find a "mil-spec" or "issued" or whatever Cockpit G-1 in a 46L with the stock tag and front chest Velcro; I'd be all over it!
It's got a G-1 style snap pocket on the left side. The front 2-way pockets hold a lot of gear: I can fit my iPhone 6-Plus on one side and my over-stuffed Filson wallet in the other with ample room for my hands in the hand warmer pockets (plus room for my keys or other stuff in there next to my...
I pilot a big old ferryboat. Most days it's the best job in the world, but then there's fog or ice or nor'easters or Sully crash landing a US Airways jet into the Hudson. Then it gets exciting!
This one's definitely a keeper. It's the only black leather jacket in my arsenal and it fits me like a bespoke jacket. Also, at my job as a passenger vessel boat captain it lends itself well to that professional uniform appearance :D
Just picked up this nice black leather Border Patrol uniform jacket from the 'Bay for under a hundred bucks. It's brand new/never worn and was marked as a size Large Long (about a 46 L). Made by VF Imagewear who make uniforms for commercial and industrial companies. Leather is thick and grainy...
Is the hangar/museum in Farmingdale, Long Island next to Republic airport? I've visited there, super cool place! Amongst other projects, they were restoring a PBY Catalina at the time I visited...one of my all-time favorite aircraft!
Selling this WWII vintage m-422a jacket on the 'bay; 24" pit to pit, stitch holes from removed nametag, excellent condition!

My US Authentic A-2 fits me very well. I think with modernized patterns for 21st century customers, it's trial and error to find the right manufacturer for one's particular physique and preferred fit.
