Terrible news! I hope there are security cameras inside/outside and around the Aero building that can be accessed by the police to get a positive identification of the culprits. With inexpensive and easily installed camera technology so widespread these days, there's nowhere thieves can go to...
Torrential rainstorm today out on the harbor. This Navy-issue G-1 was a perfect choice; the chrome-tanned hide sheds water nicely and with the collar flipped up, I was quite snug despite the nasty weather. I swapped out a Velcro "captain" patch where the P-3 Orion pilot had his aviator wings.
Yes, that super tough finish isn't everyone's cup of tea, but you'll be proud of whatever patina or creasing or scars/scratches you manage to put into that armor-like hide. After 10 years or so of rough use, it'll look a bit like the Aero "real-deal" A-2 (areas of heavy grain next to areas of...
Hi Matt, welcome and congrats on a nice jacket at a GREAT price.
A lot of brand new jackets look blousey and loose until properly broken in. To expedite matters, you can try wetting the collar (or other parts of the jacket) with warm water and really working it in. Some folks go to the extreme...
Not sure about how often they have their sales, but from what I've seen, many times it will not include custom jackets so the one they are running now (15% off everything) is a great deal.
I have a customized US Authentic G-8 and it is superb! It's not a full custom-made one-off design but they modified their G-8 jacket to my specifications and it turned out even better than I envisioned. The measurements I wanted were spot on and the options I chose were all executed perfectly...
This jacket might be made of cow hide since it doesn't have the usual goatskin pebbled grain (and by the 1980's I think manufacturers were allowed to officially use cowhide or goatskin for Navy G-1 contracts). There is some great graining and patina with a bit of scuffing and surface wear, just...
Thread resurrection time gentlemen; I obtained this 1986 Orchard M/C military issue G-1 from a P-3 Orion pilot who had worn it while flying patrol and reconnaissance missions in the 1990's. It's a thick, robust yet soft leather which has a nice trim fit. I really like it and it has a true...
Gibson & Barnes made that style as well and they named their version the "Raider". I bought one from their San Diego showroom afew years ago; a great jacket design, and excellent workmanship by G&B.
There are SO many great looking jackets here, I could never choose just one favorite. However, Dav and his incredidibly cool Aero Highwayman always comes to mind when I think of a special TFL jacket.
