My wife was watching reruns of the 1990's comedy "Mad about you" and I spotted Paul Reiser wearing a G-8 in several episodes. It appeared to be an Avirex/Cockpit version.
Navy cold-weather/flame resistant deck jacket. With the wind chill, the temps were in the single digits for most of the day. This current-issue USN deck jacket handled the cold weather quite well with only a thermal shirt and medium-weight sweater underneath. I'm very pleased with this latest...
I agree with everyone’s Star assessment. Nice jackets and a company that has a long history of supplying leather jackets to the military. I have a 1973 Star G-1 and the goatskin has the most incredible graining and patina imaginable.
Rain. Snow. Wind. Zombies. That jacket will just shrug it off and keep going! I’ve always been impressed by LW workmanship and quality. Congrats on a great jacket and wear it in good health.
Thanks @Flightengineer! The older LL Bean stuff was really well made. This jacket has thick sheepskin lining (super warm!), real mouton fur collar, wool knit cuffs & waistband and thick goatskin leather. It appears very dark brown (almost black) when it’s overcast and cloudy but under brighter...
Blustery cold today (after we got 4 inches of snow last night); broke out my 1990-vintage L.L. Bean sheepskin-lined bomber jacket. My well-used Filson insulated Highlander boots were plenty warm in the 30-35 degree temps.
I picked up one of these newer Navy-issue flame resistant deck jackets on the 'Bay for only $30 and it's really a great work jacket! Warm, comfortable and functional, plus it has lots of pockets to store your gear. If you find one in your size, I highly recommend you grab one as a perfect...
Hi @tropicalbob; yes that was a photo from about 2 years ago but as a matter of fact it was taken during the winter time. Funny thing, we get lots of “winter” here in NYC where it’s perfect leather-weather and I squeeze in as many days as I can wearing a leather jacket! July or January, if it’s...
That's a great looking Eastman M-422a @s4rmark
Reminds me of my own Eastman that I wore for quite afew years before sadly outgrowing it. Must put a new one on my Christmas list!
Thanks for all the kind comments gentlemen. This jacket is very comfortable to wear (I had on a lightweight crew neck cashmere sweater in the photo, providing warmth without bulk) and, IMHO, it's got the right blend of vintage wear and structural integrity.
I'm 100% happy with this latest...
Hi @Big J thanks for checking in, my friend. This H & L Block pretty much completes my collection (we've all said that before! Lol).
Awesome patina and fits very well. I posted up on page 320 of "What jacket are you wearing today" the day I first wore it. Really comfortable and in excellent...
It’s a dark navy blue @Doctor Damage and the design is very functional; the side handwarmer pockets have hidden zippers for added security and there are two large inner pockets. Heavy duty front zipper with Velcro wind flap which zips all the way up to the top of the high collar.
The fabric is...
I picked up one of these current-issue flame resistant Navy deck jackets off eBay for $30; jacket is warm, comfortable and has some excellent workmanship. I highly recommend grabbing one if you find one in your size.
The W&G A-2's are great jackets that are usually well made and offer reasonable accuracy for low cost. The quality seems to vary quite a bit; the W&G brand was owned by different parent companies (VF Corp, Laura Ashley, the Japanese firm D'URBAN, Land's End). During the years of ownership...
