@Worf
Thanks a lot for the suggestions regarding the sleeves, eventually I might get to them. About the sleeves, I noticed on some vintage Grizzly jackets (and the one from LW) that sleeves are wider than Aero's Grizzly for example.
The jacket is meant to be worn at temp < 5 deg C when is...
And now the jacket making story...
Opposed to the many happy/trouble-free experiences that abound over here, mine was a bad one.
As the first jacket, this was also produced in the same leather manufacture in Romania. Before the 2 jackets I had them also doing some alterations to some jackets...
Technical details
So the jacket is made of Italian black FQHH(2 quarters) + a whole piece of hair on horsehide. The hardware: heavy duty YKK brass zipper + generic brass belt, eyelets for the belt and plastic black buttons. The lining is some quilted slightly rubberized fabric.
I like the...
My second Grizzly type jacket
After about an year I come back with pictures from this second Grizzly type jacket. It is supposed to be identical in size to the first one. Made of thick black horsehide that is doubled on chest and back with B/W hair on horsehide. Thick, stands vertically on it's...
I own 2 Grizzly type hair on hide jackets:
- black steer hide with brown/white horse hair on hide (http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?60873-My-custom-made-Grizzly-Palomino-jacket&highlight=)
- black horse hide with black/white horse hair on hide (I will post pics and details soon...
Thanks, I saw it there, also in the Classifieds section from FL. A nice price, looking fantastic however a size smaller for me. From what I understood a very trim 44. I am somewhere between 44 and 46.
A bit disappointed about the Schott 740n peacoat.
I got a slightly used one size 46 from eBay (perhaps is at most 10 years old). I love its quality, thickness of fabric, the classic cut.
Liking it I bought another Schott 740n size 44 shortly after, also from eBay. This time it was brand new...
That we talk about vintage jackets. I want to ask you how do you store them, given the considerations:
- that particular jacket's unknown usage history - might contain mold, bacteria that could pass to newer jackets and other clothing items if stored in the same room/drawer
- related to first -...
@deluxestyling
Yes the quality, robustness are amazing, considering the decades they've been withstanding and beating they took. Also what I like are the small imperfections - at mine's the horizontal stitches on top of front pockets are not in the same line, which looks cool. Please do post...
Thanks a lot for the answer Peacoat. I definitely find the answers from you and others very helpful, as there is a lot to learn from.
I love police jackets too, I have one purchased from a FL member, that it not adjustable on the sides of the waist band. I think is a bit newer from the 60s, HH...
My 50s Police jacket
Hi everybody,
I recently purchased for a nice price what appears to be a 50s Police jacket in pretty good state. It has all the features of a genuine CHIPS jacket (see Aero or LW) Leather is still supple, absolutely no dry, cracked areas. It's very likely horsehide judging...
Here in Luxembourg it was quite cold until one week ago (lowest around -15 deg Celsius, real feel maybe -20).
I wore the Aero B3 with just a short sleeved T or shirt underneath(it was enough really). For the bottom a pair of rigid Wrangler 13 MWZ (14 + oz, rough, very dense waving, cheap and...
@CeeDee thanks for the comparison, it was very helpful to see both side-to-side. For me LW has an edge, looks overall tougher. The leather is obvious thicker, you can see this from the folds in certain areas. The extra $$ are worth I'd say. Regarding the fit, I like Insurrection's Aero J106...
@nabottle, you're welcome! Thanks!
I understand you, it's a fantastic jacket, among the best you can buy. I was like this at the beginning, but as the time passed I tried not to think too much about it and dedicate to other activities (family, work, fun). This way the waiting is much easier to...
@1087 - I apologize in case I hijacked your thread. If it's the case I kindly ask an administrator/moderator to move the post to another thread.
Light ain't right! - my favorite saying
I recently purchased a Buco J23 jacket in brown FQHH, size 50, for a bit more than 500 usd. As a fit is ok...
@nabottle, @Windward - I'm back with the pictures (sorry for the bad quality but they were shot indoors at ISO 400 as I was unable to take them during the day) :
