Wow, that's one heck of a good hat for you, sir! From the photos it seems to suit you to a t. Congratulations on a wonderful piece, really very impressive indeed!
Thank you Mr. Hatman!
This old Champ will take any dent I want to give it, and when I change the dent there are no signs of the last one. It just doesn't have much crown at all - I did a Gus earlier today and a diamond and one that looked just like Smokey the Bear on my head.
It's super...
Here's a long-haired country boy rewrite based on some other work that was shown here. Maybe it'll spark some further creativity down this road. Feel free to change or add or delete or ignore or whatever. I see there's already some potential lyrics out there, this was fun to write, though:

Thank you RF, I'm sure the hat is nothing special to serious collectors but I am thrilled that it fits and is in good condition. Okay, its condition is not "exceptional" as I originally stated but it is better than I expected when I bought it which is why I used that word. (I really had no idea...
Thanks for the encouragement Moon. Any further forays into the world of vintage hats wil have to wait until I have more stable living situation.
Thank you also for identifying the probable time period of this piece. One success of the purchase is that it seems to have awoken an interest in...
Sorry, it must be the stress of having two perfectly good hats in my possession. It's all fun and games now but in three weeks I'm off to India and I'll have to decide which one to take. I don't think it will be a hard choice (I need the bigger brim of the FED IV) but I do love this little guy...
Interesting that over dinner I read this form Richard Rorty on "the pragmatist": "His (the pragmatic philosopher's) reply is that (this) might turn out to be an age in which the democratic community becomes the mistress, rather than the servant, of technical rationality."
I'd go further and...
I just recieved this, my first vintage hat, from a small thrift store in Kentucky (eBay purchase).
I could not be happier with this hat! What a Champ!!
Cheers for all the info on Champ Hats!
Nathan
I just recieved my first eBay vintage fedora, and I LOVE it! It came from a small thrift shop in Shelbyville, KY and it feels like a blessed hat.
I made this purchase for a few reasons:
1) It was less than 50 USD to purchase and ship to Malaysia.
2) It's vintage felt and I wanted to find out...
If I were in the U.S. I'd be tempted to purchase a Bushman to try the ventilation holes. I'm curious if there would be a noticeable difference for me.
So far the FED IV is keeping me cool and dry. It is more effective than the Banjo at the cooler part, for sure. How much bigger is the FED III...
Here I am with the Banjo at Angkor over three years ago. This was just before my shift to a wholly Asian wardrobe.
I subscribe to theory that the felt insalates against the heat as well as cold, but I am finding that it works way better with a high crown. I read in the Lounge a few folks say...
Beautiful hat, and nice vehicle too! I lived in Clarksville when I was in high school and that was a lot of years ago, but I don't remember the area looking like that. Are you on a road trip?
Will do Blackthorn! Actually, I was excited to post some photos of the FED IV and me at Angkor Wat but I came down with a flu and had to miss going to the temples this time. I've been once before so it was okay that I missed it, but I bet the Fed IV would have looked really cool there!
Really, the Americans have gone on "endlessly" here? So sorry to have cluttered up your infinity, sir! Damn yanks! :D
As I stated above, I used the word "combat beret" specifically to distinguish it from the berets that are issued to the U.S. Army. To my mind, those are parade items and have...
Yay, now we're talking about what I really came to discuss!
Crown height is the advantage, short and simple. The Banjo Paterson was my first ever full-brimmed hat and I didn't have any idea what I really wanted when I made the purchase. The Banjo is a nice hat, but the crown is too low to do...
