Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Regarding dogs and sirens, is it possibly like horses and automobiles? They're now so common that the later generations of animals don't even take note, whereas in the pre-WWI era, horses bolting at the sight and sound of automobiles was reportedly commonplace.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Perhaps Evinrude is more apt, since that hoary brand left us this week.

    Vintage Appliances

Cords are easy to replace and proper cloth-covered wire and plugs are available new. I've used https://vintagewireandsupply.com/ in the past with good results.

    What are you snacking on?

I tried to look it up and only found recommendations for Mexican restaurants in North Dakota. What exactly is a Bismarck Burrito?

    Boater faction!

They're absolutely appropriate, I was just referring to the condition. I'm fine with looking a bit shopworn most of the time, but if I'm going to a black-tie event, I try to keep everything looking its best.

Nicely proportioned hat and at that price, I'd say the damage is negligible. Personally, I'd happily wear it with anything short of a dinner jacket.

What is the story on bulb selection? Do they work with LED's or does one need to use incandescent bulbs?

    Vintage Cars

I've always been a fan of the Larks. Simple, practical cars, yet still stylish, and with a remarkably good parts supply.

I've only just started reading about her, but Miss Dillon was quite a remarkable person from the looks of it! Read along, if like me you hadn't heard of her before: https://www.brownstoner.com/history/walkabout-miss-dillons-gas-company-part-one/

Ah, drat. Well, thanks for looking. If you happen to come across any legitimate used-car lots in there, I'd love to see them.

The Era -- Day By Day

You guys are killin' me. I was a Postum drinker for a while maybe 7 or 8 years ago in an attempt to stop drinking so much caffeine, which I thought was causing my migraines. Turns out it was practicing law that was causing my migraines. I do retain a certain affinity for that roasted grain...

Mr. Coffee Nerves!! He was a staple of the '40s and '50s National Geographic magazines I used to read as a kid. (And still read now that I have access to the online archive.)

    Vintage SHORTS!

This seems a good place to put this: Shorts, or the implication thereof, on Midway Island, 1935. From "Flying the Pacific," National Geographic, December 1936. Which is an account of a Martin M-130 flying from California, to Manila.

    Boater faction!

Re: Boater sizing. I kinda view mine as a dressier version of my pith helmet. The pith/sun helmet uses its internal suspension to stay up off the head to provide shade while also letting the air circulate around your scalp. Properly fitted, it sits high enough on the head to keep the crown up...
