Roosevelt’s Boat Cloaks
Everyone is already familiar with FDR’s use of the boat cloak, thanks to widely disseminated photos of the Yalta Conference, when FDR met with his allied counterparts Churchill and Stalin near the end of WWII to jockey for control of post-war Europe, so I will focus on...
USN Boat Cloaks (cont.)
Now let's take a look at some art and photographic examples of boat cloaks in use by USN officers. This first photo is from 1918 and shows R Adm Moffett with Admundson. Note the admiral’s use of the hook and eye at the collar but not the chest frog. The admiral is...
USN Boat Cloaks
The first official reference I have been able to find for USN boat cloaks is the 1903 Navy Regulations (below). The description speaks for itself, although it’s worth noting that the boat cloaks were to be made of the same wool and lining as the officer’s overcoats (the early...
Introduction
The goal of this thread is to detail the history, use, and characteristics of US Navy (USN) and US Marine Corp (USMC) officer’s boat cloaks and US Army officer’s capes. Despite a superficial similarity, these three garments differ significantly in detail, differences which will be...
hahaha absolutely, the city was a mess back then. It was into the mid-80s too, at least when I was there on a vacation, but by the 90s it was clean... and now of course it's shiny clean. Movies can be fun time machines.
Oh dear, this is exactly as I feared when I saw the first trailer. Ugh. Sounds like that TV series, uneven though it was (and with a miscast Paul), might be better or at least more innovative visually and whatnot than this latest outing. I have long believed that the 1984 film has always been...
Last night I watched the 2019 film "Arkansas" with Liam Hemsworth, Vince Vaughan, and John Malkovich. One of those random things I grabbed in the library which turned out to be a gem. It got poor reviews apparently but I think it's one of the best films I've ever seen, more or less flawless...
^ congrats GHT. Few years ago I was on a Burberry kick and managed to snag give (three trenches, two raincoats) in great condition in my size for about what you paid for that one. Sometimes you have to wait months or even years to find what you want, or sometimes you login one day and "bam"...
yeah, the more I look at it, the more I agree with you on that point... seems unlikely someone would install Alpha zippers on a different repro... might be one of those Alpha Replica models but probably not
to the original poster : don't buy
or if you already own it, if it fits just wear it and...
I agree with Peacoat, it looks like a civilian model by the tag and I'm pretty sure that Alpha didn't do "Alpha" branded zipper pulls on their military jackets. What colour is it? The military ones were only ever made in green.
Here's a looooong thread on MA-1 jackets to check out (link below)...
Last night I watched the 2020 movie Disturbing The Peace starring Guy Pearce. It's set in a small midwest US town and Pearce plays a US Marshall who is policing the town as a semi-banishment after accidentally shooting his partner a decade before. Biker gang rolls into town to rob the bank...
In Tatort episode #217 a young detective who is assigned to work with Schimanski adopts a light blue version of Schimanski's jacket, with cuffs rolled back on the outside.
