Very nice jacket and the length seems fine to me, but since it is a CR can go a little shorter and still look good, or a little longer for more coverage. My concern would be how it fits in the chest when zippered up - as you mention, but that can be taken care of with a bit of dieting if needed.
Lone Pine shearling. Incredibly light, warm and comfortable. Leather is extremely soft as is the merino shearling. Oiled calfskin storm flap is a nice contrast.
Again, pictures (especially with me as the wearer) do not do this coat justice.

As mentioned before, I will be "thinning the herd" with my jackets - so here's a 6 y/o B3 from Cockpit. Its a size 44 - which is too large for me, especially after dropping some weight. For reference - I'm 5'6" 174lbs, generally a size 40-42 in jackets.
As most know, these B3's develop a...
Ok, not sure of the type of leather unfortunately, but here's the info I do have.
It was bought a few years ago - JL Powell, worn a dozen or so times, no scars or scratches, sateen lining, large inside pockets, size L.
Beautiful patina - not from wear though, very comfortable
For reference...
Dovetailing from another thread about the CockPit B-3, which I bought a few years ago, this is a size 44. I subsequently lost about 25lbs (196lbs to 171lbs or thereabouts) and this jacket is way too large for me know (obviously pic does not show that) and will be heading to the classified...
I have that (or very similar) B3 and agree 100% on your assessment. The fit should not be "skin tight" and that 38 on the OP fits him well. Having worn that jacket for some years now, I can attest to its incredible warmth.
Lone Pine coats are very expensive but the quality is there - 0n sale around $1900.00. The pictures really don't do the coat justice - and I know that statement has become a cliché, but it's true.
If it does fit me well, I'll make the plunge with a partial justification/excuse that I will be...
If the fit is good, I'm considering getting this one offered by Orvis and made by a company called Lone Pine. I was there in NYC the other day and tried it on and the 40 is a bit too large, so am waiting for them to get in a 38. I had bought a size 40 a couple of years ago, wore it outside a few...
So many nice jackets - and I am considering the Orvis jacket. Yours is a better pic than on the Orvis website! They don'y have one in the store so I am wondering what size your coat is (I'm 5' 6" and 172lbs) and how do you like the quality?
