Modern Structures with Golden Age Charm

This hotel, when viewed from the right angle, has a nice symmetrical stair-step look with some Art Deco influence. www.rosenshinglecreek.com I'll be staying there for a convention in a few months, I hope the inside is as nice as the outside.

    Bring back dating?

Not at all. I have simply observed that most dating relationships end with a hard break-up. In my opinion, if one is truly searching for Mr./Mrs. Right, the relationship should be something more than just "dating" in the casual sense where one moves from person to person; it should be viewed...

    Bring back dating?

Personally, I've seen too many dating relationships break up to want to be a part of it. I admired one girl from afar for seven years, and she had a boyfriend for a lot of the time. After everyone had heard about "how serious" they were getting, they broke up and she's on to the next fellow...

What you say drives me crazy.

The other day I was working video cameras with a friend of mine and he said "this is, like, terrible." I responded "You mean this is similar to terrible?" But it was no good, I had to explain it.

    vintage music!

I've been stuck on Cab Calloway lately. I love how infused some traditional soul into traditional big band and jazz. Great sound. And just as a heads up to everyone, this site has a ton of the aforementioned artists recorded as wav files: http://vintager02.tripod.com/

    "300" - Merged Thread

I don't mind CGI, and perhaps the full film gives off a better impression than the trailer, but this "comic book aesthetic" is what comic books are for. There's no real filmmaking when the actors stand in front of a green screen the whole time. They could have made the entire film with CGI and...

    The Adventurer's Gear Thread

On that, I beg to differ sir. My TravelSmith bush jacket, (the one from my New Years photos,) functions perfectly in that respect. It's it a great help for the humid clime in my area.

I'm sure Selous wore APHA-approved garments. Personally, I think the Kalahari Safari jacket from Beretta has a better look to it, and for $50 less...

Christina Aguilera's video to Candyman! Wow.

Smart fellow! :eusa_clap The video has some flair, and the song has its good points, but the whole thing suffers from too much modern influence. The first minute was the best part; though the pin-up outfit rivaled it quite a bit. ;)

Do you think there could be a second Great Depression?

The dollar is beyond inflated, and America has outsourced itself to death. If a hiccup in China can cause the DOW to drop 400 points in a matter of hours, economic hard times, (that is, harder than they have been,) are not beyond possibility. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if jealous...

random pics with golden era "aura"

I took a few GE-inspired shots of downtown Pensacola, FL last fall. Looking back on them now, I think they should have been darker, and taken from different angles. I'll probably re-take them soon. http://thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=14101

    Novels and Movies

Ah, that reminds me. The BBC / A&E adaptation of Pride and Prejudice was a perfect adaptation of the book; almost word for word the whole way through. Great casting too.

    Novels and Movies

I can think of very few films that have stayed true to their source material, except, perhaps, The Adventures of Robin Hood. The Lord of the Rings trilogy almost goes without saying as a good interpretation of the books, and stellar film-making all the way around as far as I am concerned. The...

    The "Go Figure" Laws

We've all been there... Law of Mechanical Repair: After your hands become coated with grease your nose will begin to itch or you'll have to pee. Law of the Workshop: Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner. Law of probability: The probability of being watched...

    Dracula

As it stands now, I've yet to see the old film. The fact that it was made without music has my curiosity up, and it will probably move up a few notches on my Netflix list now. I started drafting the book into a screenplay a while back, maybe it will sell someday and we'll have that faithful...
