I think the "Diamond Horseshoe" designation was more a "quality" level than a style. Mine was different than this one and in more of a cattleman style with a Fort Worth crease and shorter brim. It was from the 1970s and think the sweatband actually ready "Diamond Horseshoe 115" (meaning $115).
I am sure most of us are very familiar with the story of how Resistol came to be - E.R. Byer and Harry Rolnick coming together in 1927 in Dallas to form the company (http://www.resistolhat.com/history.php), and that the Byer-Rolnick era continued into the 1960s, with the post-B-R transition...
This hat has already been in the WHAYWT thread, but thought I would post here for Resistol fans. This is a 1960s (Byer-Rolnick) Resistol “El Lobo” 5X beaver western. It came to me unworn in the original B-R box. I really like the proportions and the silver ribbon on the silverbelly color...
Thanks – here are some photos of my tie chain, but it is hard to see the silver and gold contrast in the pics. I had forgotten that I also have a similar/larger vintage Hickok leather tie bar with a saddle as well.
Silver/gold saddle tie chain.
Silver saddle/tooled leather tie bar.

One of my favorite movies is “Paper Moon” (1973) and the great John Hillerman wore a nice leather jacket in one of his two roles in the movie, Sheriff Hardin. His Deputy also wore a leather jacket. Hillerman’s jacket appears to be A-2 styled, but has a snap at the collar. The Deputy’s jacket...
Any additional info about this picture? My Mother's cousin, an AAF Navigator, was shot down on a mission over Cologne, on 14 Oct 44 (755th BS, 458th BG, 8th AF) and taken prisoner by the Germans. The ship he was on (not his regular plane) was a B-24J, the "Jolly Roger."
This weekend I watched (possibly for the first time) “Torpedo Run” (1958) with Glenn Ford and Ernest Borgnine. What immediately caught my attention was the leather “37J1” jacket worn by Borgnine’s character (and a couple of others in the background). I put quotes around 37J1 because I don’t...
For this rare, rainy, Texas day, my 1960s Resistol western knock-around "truck hat" (where it stays). The original "leather" sweatband desentigated on a hike a few years ago, but Texas Hatters replaced it with a real leather one for me.
Vintage 1960s "Stockman" branded 3X Beaver rancher in chocolate brown (based on liner, sweat, paper tags, etc. I am 99% sure this hat was actually made by Resistol).
We are running out of jacket days in these parts, and by 8AM I won't need this one anymore, but for a couple of hours I get to wear my Cooper A-2 that I purchased in 1994 (removed the Velcro it came with and added a WW-II style name tag recently).
