Bullet placement is everything. Additionally, the 9mm Parabellum is a rather sad excuse for a pistol cartridge whereas the .375 H&H has a century long record of being enough for everything on the planet. In fact, as I have often said, "One planet, one rifle . . . for one hundred years!" Do...
Are they rotated in the final posting or just when you put them up in the 'post reply' box? I had it happen that the picture was rotated when I put it up up but then was in the correct orientation when it hit the board. Weird.
Yup. It just doesn't make sense to me to put a sling on a soft case for carrying a shotgun. I suppose if all you do is driven bird shooting it's okay but as a walkup hunter I'd prefer the sling on the gun.
I'm always on the lookout for a sliding breech. I think it's just the coolest system. Whether or not it actually, as mythologized, reduces felt recoil I decline to judge but it certainly is strong.
I have great affection for a slung double gun. Carry it open and upside down on your left side with two shells in your right hand and watch the dog work. She goes on point and you're ready and up is a split second. Sadly, it lessons the value of an English gun. However, if I ever score on a...
'Guild guns' are often some of the best deals around. Rarely anything fancy but well made and reliable. Good score on that. A bit of steam on those dents and a better looking recoil pad and she's back in the game.
Tonight I'm entertaining. I'll serve a very hearty minestrone followed by ribeye steaks and pugliese bread. We'll be drinking a Medallion fine table red and she's bringing a fruit galette for dessert.
There are several ways to make Beef Wellington and some of them are indeed complicated. However, if you do a google search for 'individual beef wellington' you'll find that if you use frozen puff pastry from the grocery and some jarred or canned ingredients, it isn't bad at al. And asparagus...
Pasta al pesto, steeped steelhead and an entire bottle of Procedo Barbara. I'm not proud of the last. I really should have stopped at a half bottle but, damn, this stuff is good.
My opinion is this. American bullet companies have put a lot of effort into developing bullets that will hold together at the really silly velocities we've been led to believe are necessary and they take justifiable pride in their work. Getting a bullet to hold together and turn into a perfect...
I'm so old school that I have the .338/06's grandpappy, a .318 Westley Richards--by W.W. Greener no less! I can't imagine that any game animal could tell the difference getting shot with either that, the .333 OKH, the .338/06 or the Mauser but by golly don't they leave some impressive exit...
Oh, man, if you ever want to let go of that let me know. I had one once that I had rechambered for the 62mm case. That little bugger was a pocket rocket and with the swept back rounded pistol grip? It handled like a fine double gun. However, at the time I had a .375 and a .450 Rigby and...
If I was going to by a CZ it would either be in .505 Gibbs or 9.3x62. Can't really come up with a use for the Grendel being as I have a 6.5x55 but--enjoy!
Sauer 16x16x7x57R It's going to Briley because the chokes are F/F which in our thick elk/grouse country is pretty silly. The side lever is the safety and the top lever activates the rifle barrel and raises a nice little 'V' sight though with the scope on claw mounts is less than terribly...
