Once I receive my Himel Kensington made of the exact same batch of dark brown shinki used for Tom71's Imperial we will have to compare how they wear. I'll be sleeping in mine to break it in.
Langlitz did not state it was shinki. When they ask their suppliers the response tends to be cagey. But the sample was identical to shinki. Sadly the end result was not to my liking. Would like to have more details on the leather the Japanese rep works with and more importantly, can supply.
I did receive it.
Sadly there were significant fit issues.
I also did not really like the horsehide and took that opportunity to request and receive a refund.
The sample I received from langlitz was not the same as the leather received. The sample leather was identical to Dave Himel's black...
I live close to Dave and where his small crew manufactures Himel jackets.
I dropped off my black Kensington for them to size my new dark brown Kensington. I held both colors.
The new dark brown shinki is slightly lighter in weight than the older stuff. Almost identical to my Good Wear dark...
Tough one.
Comes down to personal preference.
What other jacket colours do you have?
What matches your skin tone and wardrobe?
I personally love the dark oil tanned Shinki from Himel and have a Kensington being made currently in dark brown.
Good theory...
I always wondered why so many older leather jackets had paint specks.
But, it just might be like jonbuilder mentions, painting with a "beater" jacket.
