"If you only knew (from his telling) what that place has that is never, and will never be, seen..."
Some nice Roswell souvenirs?...
I've been to the museum 3 times, but not for almost two decades now. I'd kind of like to go with my Dad. He went with me every other time. He wasn't a...
Hi RudyN,
When did you order yours? (Just getting an idea of where I am in line...)
Never mind ... just picked up the answer elsewhere... July-ish. Glad it sounds like he's finished the movie work for now.
It strikes me like sort of a J. Peterman catalog on acid. The guy wants to spin some testosterone image and to flame his perceived critics.
Sorry, not interested; either in his self-important big-city rants or supporting his business. Perhaps more "lost" than I'd previously thought...
Hi WH1,
I always like to travel with a Jeeves book as well. The only downside is to sit in your airline seat chuckling uncontrollably. I was reading an old copy of "Carry On, Jeeves", in that exact state, only to be interrupted by my seatmate's curiosity over what old book could possibly be...
Oh, that is nice. Two great noir actors in a great design. It has gotten pricey to collect most things. You can still find some really nice B-movie posters for not too much. But everything has gone up a bunch. Right now it seems to have sort of leveled off price-wise, no doubt due to the...
Ah, the Maltese Falcon. Heritage has a one-sheet in their upcoming Signature auction (beginning about March 2 or so). The last one they sold went for about $10,000.00 so warm up the credit card...! Some lobby cards float around now and then. There's one in the Heritage auction, and one...
Yup. 422s. As noted, many of the guys were out of the Navy (blew some engines thinking they could ram open the throttles like their ol' radial birds), and some of them brought their jackets with them. Found this quote from 3rd squadron pilot John T. Donovan from a letter dated 1/1/42:
"We...
Doctor Strange is right ... you need 15 posts before your PM is active (sorry, I didn't notice.
Dogberd, you can email me at: ptthomasma at comcast dot net.
Hi Dogberd,
I'd say a pretty good chance it would fit you in the body. G&B run pretty large in general. The jacket has back pleats like a G-1, underarm gussets, measures 26.5" pit to pit, 25" down the sleeve to the end of the leather, and 7 inches from the collar seam to the shoulder seam...
Hi,
One more jacket needs a good home. This is a size 44 Gibson and Barnes "Raider" model in their seal-brown goatskin, very similar in many ways to an M422 other than it has a leather collar and non-patch pockets.
It's a terrifically well-made jacket that's hardly been worn. It's a...
Well, in answer to the original thread post, I've had some other jackets and they were really beautiful, but they didn't fit quite right. I am going to John because he is such an expert at the various contracts, can advise a good fit, and makes a beautiful and accurate jacket.
On the bonus...
One more MGM card text I had to share...
From "Paradise for Three" with Robert Taylor:
"I'd love to yodel through life with you!"
Hard to beat those sentiments. Makes you all weak in the knees, huh? :D
Another interesting little picture that I almost forgot is "Portrait of Jennie" from 1948 with Jennifer Jones. Cotton does an excellent job making this a memorable little diversion with a bit of mystery blended in.
I love the text on MGM cards from that vintage. A couple that seem awfully blush inducing:
From "Rage in Heaven", 1941:
"I gave you a job. I picked her out of the gutter. You show your gratitude by making love to her!"
From "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", also 1941:
"I like men who can...
