They are called kilties or brush guards. They are meant to protect the thin leather of the tongue from the laces, and provide padding from the laces over the top of your foot.
I have done this more than once - they end up looking like simple square toed cowboy boots. It has zero impact on the fit, just the looks. I would say go ahead. yOu can carefully cut the harness straps at the base of teh boot with an x-acto knife, just be careful not to cut the actual foot...
The fit looks perfect to me. I agree that the fit seems right for whatever weight you are at in the pics, and losing a few more shouldn't make much difference in how it looks on you.
I owned one of these jackets briefly, but the arms were too short so it had to go back. I really like this...
I have no experience with Johnson, but they seem to make a nice jacket. However, I just got a new Vanson Enfield, and despite the fact that it is a little more vintage looking, it is a performance built jacket. The sleeves are long, the zip cuffs zip up tight, and the cut is very functional...
THey very may well be defunct - I bought the heels and half soles from a local cobbler, and I believe he said the heels were "vintage" (not sure how old) Hopefully they're not brittle!
Edward, with both of my pairs of boots, they have been willing to accomodate my requests - although, I...
My originals have been comfortable, although I have not done much extended walking in them. Because they are a bit roomy, I have put thin insoles in both pairs to snug up the fit (I normally wear a 13 D) which has added a bit of cushioning. These ahve a normal, flatter arch as compared to...
One more note - I hope this doesn't come off to much like an advertisement - I started joining various forums in search of information and pictures to help me make informed decisions. I feel that the best way to give back is to contribute information, pictures, and real world experiences. I...
The back looks good to me - I wouldn't call it baggy at all. The sleeves look ok if you're wearing them buttoned up. Congratulations on the new jacket!
I need to get up to Insurrection one of these days - it sounds like it would be worth the drive.
Here are some quick detail shots, and some comparisons between my original Derby Boots and the new pair:
The new soles and heels compared to the standard ones:
As you can see, two years later, the old ones are breaking in nicely:
Here they are when they were new:
Hey All,
I am a big fan of William Lennon's beautifully crafted work boots, and I just received my second pair. My first pair was their model 78 "Derby" boot, which I discussed here: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?45213-New-William-Lennon-Derby-Boot-Singular!/page7 They...
Well, my new William Lennon Tan Waxy boots have arrived, and I am super impressed. I'll poost the pics for now and get a review up later tonight. I sent them some different half soles and heels to use this time around, and I think it made them even better!
Out of that list, the only ones I have personal experience with are Wesco - and they are fantastic. Truthfully, Marineabilly is the expert, but I think your list pretty much nailed the best offerings out there.
Would you guys say the quality of workmanship and thickness of leather are comparable to the Mister Freedom Road Champs, or even to the Becks?
I am just curious if the reason for wanting to pay less is based on the styling, the craftsmanship, or both.
The arch is pretty flat in them - nothing like my Smoke Jumpers. I think they run a little large, but not so much in length as width. What I'm trying to say is that they didn't feel too long, but I put in a set of insoles and now they are perfect.
I am a 44 - my chest measures around 43.5" and my true waist is around 37" (I wear size 36 in pants and jeans). What is your waist size? I think your biggest problem will be the shoulders and the fact that this particular jacket doesn't taper much to the waist.
I had one, and it was snug, but not tight. Here's my thread about it: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?50880-My-new-(to-me)-Vanson-Model-B-in-brown!!&highlight= For comparison, here is the thread about my Enfield...
