Looking at early photos the fit of an A-2 was all over the place, some trim some baggy. Both look fine to me, I'd go with the one you feel most comfortable in.
My all time favourite belt - very high quality, oak bark tanned leather by J Highet from Devon. Smells just like a new FQHH Aero. www.handmadeleatherbelts.co.uk
Length looks fine. It does look a tad snug across the chest but most vintage jackets tend to be on the trim side. Unless you want to wear it zipped up, which I really do, I'd just unzip and enjoy it.
Up for sale is a very nice RL mid weight cowhide Half-Belt, with immense grain and lovely vintage details. With its slightly longer length, back pleat and button cuffs, the pattern is very similar to a 'Pioneer' and is fitted with quality antique brass hard wear, including D ring waist pulls...
Welcome Mainspring - with the added body length and back pleat it does look more like a Pioneer than a 30's half belt, but very nice all the same and the fit is spot on.
Agree with this 100%, even a really basic breakdown of numbers of jackets in each size would help. If there's nothing in a 40" it would be a wasted journey for me :-(
I love the Ventura pattern, always have. This looks made to measure to me, not many could get away with 27 1/2" sleeves, it was clearly meant to be :-)
Stunning jacket handymike, I really like it and the fit looks great. I've never even considered shawl collared jackets but this I could definitely wear. Sounds like it's heavy but quite soft, my kudu has a similar feel, I bet you'll wear it a lot. Definite keeper!
ProteinNerd - Indeed it was a compliment, this style does suit you very well. I have 20 years on you so I tend to gravitate to more classic patterns, half belts, Highwayman etc.
I like this a lot - trim fitting, well made, understated half-belt. I love to see a jacket that drapes cleanly from the neck and shoulders, no ugly creases running down the front panels, a sure sign of a very well tailored pattern. A definite winner, if you can afford it, ouch!
