I'm dragging up this old thread from the past because it was so helpful to me in identifying some family members in old photos. Well, I have another old photo that I need help with.
The photo below is a tintype and was taken in Polk County, NC (a rural western NC county). The photographer was...
Today I wore my old standby VS hat Art made me close to 10 years ago. The hat was made as a copy of a hat my grandfather had in 1928. I always get compliments when wearing this hat, and it has served me well over the years.
Today is "work in the yard day" and I'm wearing my old, very well used, fedora. I got this hat 10 or more years ago from Miller Hats. It has served me well as a "working hat" for many years now.
Here is the photo of the sailor outfit I mentioned in my earlier post. This is my great uncle Sank Brown's son, Jim, and Jim's mother, Fae. Jim was born in 1914, and appears to be about two years old in this photo. If that's correct, then the photo was taken in 1916 or 1917.
Here's...
You may have hit on something there. When the Plymouth is parked in the garage, I have to back it out and part way down the (very long) driveway before I turn and head out. When parked in the drive, it's a straight shot out the driveway (no backing). As an experiment, I think I'll try parking...
I don't consider it anything serious, as it's just a squeal or two as I go down the driveway. What is baffling to me is it will ONLY do this after the car is parked in the garage. If I park it in the driveway, then no squeal.
Here's a question for the experts here. When I park my '48 Plymouth in the garage the front brakes will "sequel" the first time or two they are applied after backing the car out and going down the driveway to the highway. The garage had a dirt floor and has a slight down hill slope (see...
We took all four of the grandchildren on a picnic to Mount Mitchell yesterday. It was 92 degrees when we left home and a very nice 67 degrees when we got to Mount Mitchell.
We had two janitors at our school in the 1950s and into the 1960s. Both men, Mr. Caroway and Mr. Saulman, wore bib overalls. Mr. Caroway always wore a ball cap and Mr. Saulman always wore an old, well-worn, fedora style hat.
I have a question for this group, and will start in this thread. If you think of a better place, please let me know and I'll move it there.
My house was built in 1907, and my grandparents bought it in 1917. The family has been here ever since. With the 100 year anniversary of my grandparents...
It's been hotter than the gates of hades around here lately. After about 15 miles of driving the old '48 Plymouth, when I come to a stop and the engine is at idle the oil pressure drops to near 0. Normally, and even after miles and miles of driving, the oil pressure is in the 40 psi range...
