I’ve seen a few Bronx and owned one for a while but this is the first Vanson ‘twin track’ I’ve seen. A search for Vanson twin track and Vanson double track brings up a few examples of the Double Riders model with twin track zippers.
For years I’ve bought shoes and boots for under £100 except for the odd pair of Gortex Ecco boots which are just a bit more. Yesterday I was in Flannels and was smitten by a pair of Grenson Brady Boots and now my credit card has suffered for the first time in years.
No don’t believe it!
The cheapest conditioner you can safely use and then only if the jacket needs it which is seldom is a light application of Vaseline. There are numerous threads about when to condition how to condition and which is the best product - look them up but never ever use WD40. If...
I believe eBay U.K. calculate their final value fees on sold price plus shipping costs so I assume it’s the same wherever. I think they used to base it solely on sold price until a number of sellers sold stuff for peanuts and cranked up their shipping charges to avoid fees. If the selller set...
It looks to me simply like the difference between an ‘off the peg’ jacket eg size XL etc. and a ‘bespoke’ jacket. In short an off the peg is never going to be a perfect fit whereas a bespoke jacket made specifically for you taking into account a wide range of your measurements, will be a perfect...
I’ve got one of these or otherwise I’d be buying yours as it’s a good price and in good condition. This is the ultimate ‘man bag’ The straps are easy to replace. Here’s a video I found on YouTube that gives a bit of background.
I bought a pair of these when they first came on the market in the 80’s or maybe ‘90’s? They had to be replaced within a few months of light daily wear. The part of the sole that wraps the toe came away. After three free sets of replacements and a loud argument in the shop to obtain the last...
My latest razor is a vintage Wilkinson Sword Kompakt. It uses the ‘Atra’ type two blade refill which are supplied by carefully breaking off the cartridges from a each of a lifetimes supply of two blade plastic disposables bought for £20 from Aldi a few years ago.
I got into this two blade...
I’m not sure what make the zipper was in the film but I had one of a similar age with a Talon zipper but it’s quite likely that they used several makes. You’ve nailed it! If you watch the film in HD and freeze frame at the point he hands his jacket over you will see the McGregor antifreeze...
If you do hand or machine wash do not fasten the main zipper as the weight of the wet leather will tear any weak spots. I ruined a 1950’s Schott perfecto long mc jacket by not following my own advice.
I’ve given up - I downloaded a pdf of ‘on the road’ in order to do a word search for seal and seal skin and sealskin and drew blanks. A search for jacket and jackets had lots of hits but none useful. I’ll have a word with him next time I see him and check out in which Kerouac novel he read ‘seal...
I found a picture on Flickr of Kerouac wearing "his London outfit" a black leather jacket and a phony gold braid hat. the photo shows him head and shoulders wearing a cross zip leather jacket zipped up fully. So now we know he wore at least one leather jacket but black not seal. You'll find it...
I’ve bought the book and it’s arriving today. I’ll scan through it before reading it properly and so should be able to find the ‘sealskin’ quote and post it here for reference.
Apparently there’s a line somewhere in the book referring to a ‘sealskin jacket’. I’m listening to the audio book trying to find the reference. I’ve never read it and I’m really enjoying it. The only jacket mentioned so far was a ‘wool shirt’ on which he laid his face when sleeping in the long...
I had one by Cooper sportswear with epaulets and no poppers for a detachable collar. I found the sleeves too wide so sold it on and used the cash to buy a vintage Moulton f frame bike.
Apologies if this ‘rare collectible’ trainee Aero leather ‘Riders in the Storm’ has already been posted. I’ve seen only two come up on eBay and they seem to sell for high prices. The history info. looks spot on accurate
