I'm not quite sure what you mean by "function" and "fashion" with regard to vintage clothes. Prior to the 1960's, most men had two sets of clothes, at least: "good clothes" (suits, sport jackets and trousers, dress shirts, ties, etc.) and work or sporting clothes. They were rarely mixed. The...
Really nice jacket. The cloth version seems to make it easier to see the 1940's, Howard Hughes, design that would go very nicely with a Stetson Stratoliner hat. Wish it fit me. Good luck with the sale.
I have seven of them and my experience has been that they all came in a bit on the large side, some more than others. I have then inserted the spacers, and somewhere down the line felt like the hat was getting a tad tighter so I removed the spacer and the hat fit fine. I have one or two that...
I held off on the Cedar Brown for a long time for some reason, but since I got it this winter it's seen more action than any of the others. I particularly like the way it looks with brown tweed or leather.
Every time I've looked at this thread this week that portrait of General Walker has reminded me of the actor, Danial Day Lewis. Today I scroll down the page and see whom? Weird.
The style's very nice, similar to a Campdraft. Are you in the city? If it's worth it, you could stop by JJ's and see what they could do. Looks good on you.
Excuse me, I meant the Taupe Fawn. I don't believe there's any green in that color, but I can let you know for sure in a day or so as I'm expecting one as I write. If you have any specific questions, you can call or email HatsDirect: the ladies there are very nice and helpful.
I don't think there's ever been anyone on this site who didn't think the crown was too tall when they first started getting into hats, myself included. Just the other day I received my second Bluegrass Green Campdraft because I had made the crown too low when I first got it (it was my first...
It's way better to have a hat that's a bit too large than too small. Besides, HatsDirect usually includes a few styrofoam spacers in the box that you can slip in behind the sweatband if you need to. I just got the CBCD a few months back and absolutely love the thing.
One of my Sunbodys long ago became my fishing hat when I go down to the Keys (three-inch brim fedora). When it gets too hot I just dunk it in the water and put it on. I can't do that with any of my other straws.
The hat will be fine in protecting you from the sun. When light goes through apertures that small, the waves are bent and diffused. An example would be if you were to turn on a light in a hallway at home: if you then opened a door into a dark room, you'd see that some of the light has bent...
I'd also recommend an Aero Long Halfbelt for travel. When I got mine back in 2011 I asked that it be just a bit larger than my usual size as I wanted to be able to layer under it, and Julie Leitch nailed it. The CXL horsehide is a little weighty, but it's sturdy as hell and pretty much...
Don't forget that they're great about customization. A couple of years back they made me a beautiful oak-colored fedora with a 2 5/8 brim that's still my warm-weather rainy day hat. What amazed me was that they didn't charge me a dime extra. Nice people.
Nice job. Are you finding, though, that the top of your head is touching the crown? One of the things I discovered when I got my first CD was that, after I'd shaped the crown into a diamond and pinched the sides, there wasn't a whole lot of room left between the crown and my head: thus, the...
