Sorry, but I'm coming in on the middle of this conversation: to what other hats were you contrasting the Banjo's crown? A comparable hat might be the CD, but that one's an open crown and you can adjust it to whatever height you like, which is something that I like to have the option to do.
I'm with the pro side all the way and wouldn't change it a bit. It definitely gives you a 1930's Ricardo Romantico sort of mystique: women seem to go for this style much more than the Yosemite Sam look. If you're still in doubt, you might want to ask a stylish, attractive lady what she thinks...
Exactly. I have a broad, wider face and widely-spaced eyes (Scots-Irish ancestry), and I find I look terrible in a hat with any sort of taper to the crown, especially center-dented ones. I think I mentioned on another thread that the first time I saw myself in a mirror wearing a Borsalino...
Hi, dkstott, and congratulations on your entry into the wonderful world of Akubras. I was just wondering if you've checked out the Fed IV and the Campdraft styles, as the Stylemaster was my first choice when I first got interested in hats about ten years ago but quickly led to the other styles...
One thing I've noticed is that not only is the tan shade of the Silverbelly almost always inaccurately reproduced on my computer screen but so is the color of the ribbon, which is a nice light green in reality that nicely compliments the tan.
It's possible. My dad had an A-2 that he won in a troop ship card game on his way to Japan from Iwo Jima. I'd imagine these things had a way of moving around at the time.
As soon as the movie opens, I think it'll become as iconic as Pitt's Fight Club jacket. From the shots I saw, the whole outfit's perfect for that character in 1969: the jacket as well as the coordinated turtleneck and slacks.
Their website (when it was working) had pretty decent prices all around. My experience has been entirely with their custom hemps (I have three): I paid $100 for the first two and $150 for the third (the first two were a special price for Lounge members). You can't beat those prices anywhere, and...
Check out ebay first. There's a guy with a shop on there that sells new belted harness and harness boots (Frye) for about $200.00. Frye has been doing this for a while: suddenly cancelling a great line of boots only to replace them with something similar - some kind of sales strategy, and an...
I just noticed that Frye seems to have cut their belted harness boots from their line: I have a pair now in black but just saw a pair in the reddish-brown on ebay. Get 'em while you can.
And there I was thinking I had pretty much all the straws I wanted. If anyone ever sees one of these in a 7 7/8 (I knlw, I know), please sound the alarm.
One point I questioned was the comment that the boys wore jeans to school. I went to high school in the 60's, but even then jeans were not permitted, nor was long hair during most of the decade. Also, during the late '50s, a great deal depended upon where you lived, as styles for boys were...
I've picked up a few very nice, light-weight "work coats" on the J Crew Sale and Factory pages over the past year or so. A couple are linen and one is made of an Italian cotton that's so light you hardly notice it when you have it on. They seem to have big sales on these pages every weekend, and...
