A very interesting thread... never opened it before, until a photo of one of @ton312's photos piqued my curiosity. So many mentions of the great patterns making these jackets so wearable... but what exactly is it that they're doing right that almost everyone else is getting wrong? I can imagine...
What is it about the Aero crosszips that don't work well on motorbikes? Limited mobility, or something else? Your photos of Aero crosszips (specifically the multiple Bootleggers) are one of the reasons I want to order one!
Can't go wrong either way. Brilliant jackets. Not sure how I feel about the hookless zippers on both (not for me), or the chain-loop zipper pulls on the hand warmer pockets of the Freewheelers, but that's potentially irrelevant stuff to you.
Sorry, I should have specified- I meant inside, specifically.
@hjv2 I suspect you're right. Modern Aero aren't keen on adding any leather inside jackets, seemingly. I'd say they feel more strongly about this than other manufacturers. The armpit reinforcement with a more delicate lining seems...
Quite a few decent quality black jackets I've handled appear to have a coating of some kind to make them 'blacker'- I assumed that sprayed finish might contain some plastic. Black goat, such as Aero's goat, appears to have a thick, tough, coating, that I always believed was at least partially...
What's the long pocket under the arm for? For a potential passenger to use on a bike?
I like the design in the front too, though not brass with black (nonono), but agree that the back is perhaps too simple. I quite like seeing belts loops all the way around, rather than just from the front.
I agree with Marc, Jim and Monitor regarding the descriptions of leather- unless it's been coated or partially coated in plastic (which for me is a no) it generally doesn't really matter how the leather is described, as long as the leather sample I receive looks and feels nice. It is, however...
I wish Aero would extend their shoulder gussets down an extra 3 inches so they were actually functional. From my own experience, they do nothing to aid mobility, and just add bulk/make the back look sloppier. It's very odd.
Let's take Shinki as an example- it's fully aniline dyed, but in its finished state it's not a 'fully aniline leather' due to the finishing/oiling/treatments. The only leather sample I've held from any jacket manufacturer that is "pigmented" as opposed to aninile is Aero's goatskin, which is...
I guess what makes the whole aniline thing more confusing is that most leather jackets we discuss on this forum are aniline dyed rather than pigment dyed, but when finished are waxed/oiled/hot stuffed etc, to give them some water resistance. CXL is aniline dyed but heavily treated. Truly aniline...
I only have very limited experience with aniline leather- a nice leather sofa I had years ago- and the thing was ridiculously easy to stain compared to other leather furniture (e.g. with skin contact), and also a pain to clean and condition. What aniline jacket experiences have people here had...
Thanks for sharing! Your jacket is very similar to the one I have my eye on- looks super! I didn't realise the leather was aniline, though... did Theodoros make any suggestions for how to care for it? The washed and waxed version of the leather looks very interesting and unique. That's why I...
I agree with this. Perfect fit, and if you love it, having one slightly smaller and one slightly bigger isn't a bad thing at all. Personally I'd change the colour and hardware for the second jacket, or have a different back design. Something aside from size to differentiate them.
I'm back in Europe after a few years in roasting hot Asia, so I can justify a new jacket once again. I think Aero's bootlegger looks great, as does their board/cafe racer in Buco J-100 trim. I have some brown CXL samples, in steer and horse, and they look great, especially the HH. I've had an...
I agree that "value" brands are indeed a lot cheaper than the two main options in this thread. Perhaps costing about half what Aero jackets do. Above Aero you have custom Thedi jackets, that run about 2x the cost of Aero. Freewheelers, RMC and TFH are about 3x the cost of an Aero (or even more...
I wish there was a clever answer I could give about what to do when gaining and losing considerable amounts of weight when bulking/cutting. It's caused me clothing problems for the past 20 years since getting in to weightlifting, and fluctuating between about 175 and 245 lbs (at 6'1). I ended up...
