I've a very similar Dinner waistcoat to that - where the buttons are spaced out more than is typical. Is that a particularly European style then? I had just assumed mine was from a slightly later period (although it does seem very old).
Good tips again Metatron. I like the coat hanger thing.
That jacket is very nice, and is indeed similar to the jacket from my tweed suit I posted a while ago.

I'm incredibly sorry to hear about that! That's terrible. I hope all goes well for the future. There's some nasty things happening in the NHS...
Well anything to do with hospitals and healthcare really - I'm not sure waht might be around. But also anything to do with Friendly Societies or...
With regards shoulder pads, I've never had a problem with them moving about. Just make sure that when you're washing the item you take care when pulling the jacket inside out, to wash the linings and inner-sleeves etc. Then, when you've pulled it out of the water, drained it off and given it a...
Sounds good! If there are any to do with medical/hospital/nursing/healthcare from a long time ago, pick them up for me! Mind you, you might want them too, if I remember your line of work correctly :)
Great find Esteban - looks as sturdy as any overcoat you might buy today! Perhaps a rinse out in the tub might do the trick to reduce the food stains? I don't know whether that sort of wool is any more or less delicate than normal, but it would probably be best to freshen it up that way?
Great thread! I imagine there's a thread for military medals, but civilians ones are just as interesting. I don't have many medals really - just some ancient family war medals, and a couple of Hungarian Cold War ones that my uncle brought back from holiday for me. Oh and of course those soviet...
Interesting! Never seen buttons so detailed. I did have some metal fox-head buttons that I took off a waistcoat (I'm not into the hunting thing one bit) but they were quite nice items visually. You've done a good job of repairing them!
Thanks for the info Metatron. My tweeds did dry with a bit of a wrinkle so I'm glad of the cardboard tip. I'll try it for the others I've got to wash!
With regards stain removal, I've not used oxyclean or vanish really other than a small amount on ties. I tend to give problem areas a gentle...
That fellow on the left's suit is a very similar cut that I had my wedding suit in, with a high-button stance. My jacket had peaked lapels though, and the trousers are perhaps too full to be called twenties. I was going for early thirties really anyway. Lovely photo.
