What are your thoughts on painted/embroidered jackets, nose arts on the types like A2, B3, B6, etc.

You mentioned your preference for fighter jackets over bomber ones. Previously I've had this question: Were the B3 jackets restricted to bomber crew only, or did fighter pilots also wore them? I couldn't find any definitive answer. Judging by what you wrote, you seem to know. You mean the A2...

Do you happen to have a recommendation for a good repro painter who specializes in paintjobs for B3 and A2 in Europe?

It is a lovely A2 indeed. I just checked Avirex' website. It's apparently choke full of Japanese words now. And the price, oh man, 2500 bucks for a B3. From your personal experience, do you think Avirex is really better than the likes of Eastman and McCoy?

A shrewd business man indeed. He gets free marketing, spread the Disney name all over Europe and Asia... From a business perspective, it makes perfect sense

Hey Johnny. Thanks for the interesting history and story How much do you reckon would be a decent price to pay for a good paintjob on a B3 jacket nowadays? A few hundred bucks? I don't mean the patches and whatnot, just a pin up girl painted on the back with some slogans maybe. And I suppose...

What are your thoughts on painted/embroidered jackets, nose arts on the types like A2, B3, B6, etc.

I don't see any reasons why pin-up girls should definitely go into the NO NO category. I see them more or less like a nude painting one often found in respected galleries. They are a part of history and they illustrate how pilots dealt with stresses and the uncertainty of deaths in war time...

I might have to wear my B3 for a long long time before finally decide to let someone else paint something on the backside. A b3 is a significant investment and once you decide to paint on it, there probably isn't going back... so I gotta think through carefully. Feels like I am getting a tattoo...

I love that crusader riding a bomb image! Do you have also a squadron patch sewn into the jacket or just the group patch? Bartender Edit: You are, of course, welcome to your opinion on "these politically correct times", however here in the Lounge we expect a certain level of decorum, and would...

Is this your personal preference or did those British chaps never really paint or patch anything on their precious Irvins? Hehe

Yes the left-right protocol is exactly what I need! I suspect that there must have been certain rules because it's the military. But as you said, there were anomalies, making the matter even more confusing as the left-right wasn't kept on all jackets and historical pictures. Good to know...

What are your thoughts on painted/embroidered jackets, nose arts on the types like A2, B3, B6, etc.

Hi Stand By. Thanks for your detailed reply. Indeed I am thinking about either making my personal B3 jacket based on either historical squadrons that I admire for their heroic feats, or based on real life heroes. I will have to think about it first. If I may, I'd like to ask you a few questions...

What are your thoughts on painted/embroidered jackets, nose arts on the types like A2, B3, B6, etc.

Hi Just wanted to know what your opinions on nose arts are. Like jackets that are reproduced to have all sorts of WW II embellishments on 'em. You know, squadron patches, bomb group patches, pin up ladies on the back, half naked ladies, painted B-17s, US AF bullions,... those kinds of things...

Did US fighter pilots ever wear the B-3 jackets or were those restricted to bomber pilots only?

Hi I was wondering on the topic of a B-3 jacket with insignias on the. The B-3, according to what I know, was designed for bomber pilots who had to stay for long periods in higher altitudes, thus needing a thicker, warmer jacket. However, was there ever any time in WW II that fighter pilots...

B3 Jacket Sheep Fur: Straight vs Curly

Any reason why you prefer the curly? Also, see my previous post above. There is a picture of a B3 owner who has a 15 year old Aero Redskin with perfect straight fur.

B3 Jacket Sheep Fur: Straight vs Curly

Thanks for the welcome And I didn't know that! That's a pity because I like the straight fur better. However, I might be able to refute this claim that straight fur will get curly after sometimes. Take a look at this post here...

B3 Jacket Sheep Fur: Straight vs Curly

Thanks for your reply. I really expected the straight fur to be much softer, due to appearance perhaps. But I guess appearance can be deceiving.

B3 Jackets Question: Aero vs. Eastman thickness, warmth

You are right. It does fit you excellently! Doesn't look bulky or teddy bearish at all. Looks like you are one happy and proud owner of an ELC B3

B3 Jacket Sheep Fur: Straight vs Curly

Hi I am new to the B3 and I am planning to get one for this winter. I have noticed one big thing that nobody talks about, and that's the characteristics of the fur. On some B3 jackets, I see that the fur has some sorts of curly and pebbly look. Some B3 jackets, however, have straight, soft and...

B3 Jackets Question: Aero vs. Eastman thickness, warmth

What about the length of the jacket? Isn't it a bit long. I am 188 cm myself and my leather jackets are usually in the range of 60cm to 63 cm. The b3 in size 38 is already 61 cm without the fur, I believe. Something like size 48L would have to be like 70 cm. Do you feel it's long? What about the...

B3 Jackets Question: Aero vs. Eastman thickness, warmth

First, congratulations! You mentioned you lived in Finland, aren't you worried that it might get even colder in January? Dop you think the Eastman is enough for that kind of weather where you live? Also, what is your height and what jacket size did you order? How does it fit?
