    Drop everything & Watch

I could sit and watch the entire A Christmas Story marathon beginning to end! It is infectious. I typically just click to it every so often and never fail to hit upon one brilliant scene or another, completely at random! Sharpsburg

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

Our local Salv Army has been completely taken over by the local pickers and hoarders. I see them opening going right into the back room to help themselves to whatever they want and those of us not in the "club" get the scraps. I have never, ever seen any good costume jewelry at the store and i...

    Map of Chicago's Gangster land

Just FYI, but don't expect to see much golden era "Gangland" if you visit Chicago. I was there last summer and it turns out Mayor Daley Sr. thought the gangster legacy was bad for tourism and had most remnants destroyed. So there is no SMC Cartage company (site of the St. Vals massacre) no Dion...

Durning was also a highly decorated D-day vet. Every year he headlined the Memorial Day Salute here in DC. RIP - he will be missed.

I get hassled buying "used" clothing.

    My "Wonderful" Life

Flat top - Even those who hate the evil "obamacare" can now benefit from it by being able to change jobs and keep insurance even with pre-existing conditions. If you are keeping the bad job because of your child having a preexisting condition, you may be able to keep insurance AND change jobs...

    My "Wonderful" Life

Is there some reason why you HAVE to stay in that terrible job? I know jobs are scarce but if things are this bad (and believe me, my life has been that bad too) then maybe you need a clean break with the past! Start clean. Also, speak to someone higher up at the bank and/or contact your state...

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

Definitely not a "hair receiver" - they typically had a removable top with a hole in the center. It's probably part of a larger set for the ladies dressing table - mirror, tray, bottles and lots of little jars of various sizes depending on how fancy the set it. What lovely finds! No yardsales...

So long, Ms. Kitty Wells. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20120716/us-obit-wells/ The one time i saw here perform was in the truly pathetic side-show carnival some ten years ago. Seemed such as ignomineous end to a once great career! It still isn't God who made honky-tonk angels! RIP

How to handle yard/estate sale thugs?

I have looked for treasures at the local Salv Army and other thrifts for years, but the last few years has seen a real invasion of pickers and hoarders. Some can be really aggressive and LOTS of local "antiques" dealers seem to be getting their stock from Goodwill. It has become rather...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

RIP Ernest Borgnine. I list of great roles and characters too long to list here. 95 years young - a pretty good run, but will be missed.
