Thank you for this video. The Adventurer in "Graphite Grey" and "Regency Fawn" (you'd think they were naming Rolls Royce colors) are pretty sweet, but I have to admit, the brown still looks best overall and I'm still not convinced this is the same hat sold by David Morgan under the same name...
I was not aware that a brown hat went with navy and charcoal suits. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Also, the hat you reference appears to be different than the one located here: http://www.davidmorgan.com/product_info.php?products_id=1128
I don't believe that Morgan sells the Adventurer in fawn or graphite? Further, I thought Akubra Adventurers from other sellers were different than those coming through Morgan?
Does anyone here have any first hand experience with the Akubra Adventurer? Now that we're headed towards winter (at least as winter as it gets here) I'd like to get something that will keep my noggin warm and the damaging sun rays at bay.
I like the size of the hat -- I think it will fit my...
Thanks for your very thoughtful reply. I might go with some plus fours too if they indeed look more traditional. The jacket and waistcoat are very cool, but I'll be pushing the "social limits" with just the trousers/hose/garter ties where I will be using them.
I'm curious about something...
I forgot to ask...
Are garter ties (I would never wear loud ones as shown below) considered to be in good taste or are they ostentatious/silly?
Also are sgian-dubhs (small knives) ever tucked into one's hosiery in good taste or are they limited to those wearing kilts? Thanks again!
I carry two pieces. One is a leather briefcase that holds my laptop, a writing slope, a couple of pens/pencils and some paper files. The other is a nylon messenger bag that holds: Wallet, keys, phone, MP3 player, Chapstick, change holder, gum, handkerchief, pen, pencil, multi-tool, large...
I need a pair of Breeks/Plus Twos/PlusFours/Knickers. I know they're not all the same thing but varying sources call such trousers different things when the actual differences are variable and quite trivial.
In simpler terms as an adult male I need some short trousers to wear at my gun/hunt...
Thanks for the reference. Very interesting website. I like the crown height of the Christys Polished Taller Topper and the brim of the Olney Edwardian Top Hat. I'm also not sure that I want a topper made from melusine finished fur. While traditional and correct, I think something a little...
Thanks for your wonderful (and non-judgmental) response. It's interesting -- one of the things that really galvanized my commitment to wearing a topper this winter was the doorman at a five star hotel. Most doormens' uniforms look like costumes. This man's uniform was amazing in quality from...
The top hat/John Bull hat decision was based on a great deal of input and reflection. One (and there are certainly more than one) prerequisite to making a top hat work today vs. 1870 is that every other element of garb or accoutrement must be beyond reproach.
I suspect (as just one example)...
I'm curious about the different colors of overcoats? Here in California we only wear overcoats perhaps 2-4 weeks for the entire year depending on where on lives in the state. The only overcoat I have ever owned is navy, which I have worn with navy, grey, charcoal and black suits.
Someone...
