Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

That is indeed nice! I think I mentioned I am having a second jacket made with CXL just to scratch an itch these forums created for me, so hopefully my second jacket will be to your liking. And I like my basic 3oz naked cowhide, it's thick and supple, I respect everyone's entitled to their...

Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

I chose the naked cowhide, and as you know they literally have dozens of stock leather I could have chosen from, alot of which are more "interesting" , I went with durable and pliable. But hey, you don't like it, that's fine, I don't see a need to make a heavy jacket, to each their own...

    That is a thinking man.

Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

So... not that simple. I mean, how will Aero and such stay in business if you can provide any of the desirable leathers and have them build it? You say much much cheaper, 40 sq ft of Horween CXL is just about $500 retail, which in itself cost more than a completed jacket shipped to your door...

Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

Totally. It's odd that I find myself on this side of the discussion because just in the other thread about the Schott x Shinki jacket I was talking about why do things like how many stitches per inch matter? If the jacket lasts with one stitch per inch, then I'm good with it. I really do think...

    JL custom m200

Thank you for saying that. My primitive understanding of leather jackets was to never ever wear them in the rain, so through my education through these boards I learned that I can in fact use them in the rain, and the CXL has some good water repelling qualities, which is ultimately why I'm...

I'm not sure if you were talking about mine, but the one I uploaded was my JL.

Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

Man, I'd care if that was the jacket (JL) I received for the price I paid. Dang, that 5* is suhweet, got any more?

Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

If I paid above market and got that, I'd send that back. I'm really not that picky, but that I'd be upset about.

Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

I think you took my post out of context, because as critical as that portion of my statement is of 5*, I'm largely complimentary of 5*. Because I agree with all your points, but the context of what I was saying is not that 5* is akin to mall jackets, but that they really compete and are...

Lol we have the exact opposite problem though not as big of a gap in price. That horween seal is looking mighty comfy. Must. Stick. To. Guns.

Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

Oh sorry, posted it in another thread. 3oz naked cow semi custom order. It's currently getting some alterations done and I decided to change out the liner with one I decided not to use on my new one.

    Johnson Leathers black cowhide MC-500

Lol, no worries, nothing wrong with OD if it works for you. And I totally get it, it's very period/look/style correct, and it actually comes off as somewhat neutral and compliments black/brown leather really well. It's just not me is all. And I also have not excluded the possibility that one day...

Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

100%. At the end of the day, you're getting a jacket, and depending on your perspective, how that jacket lines up with your expectations will be a personal situation. I went down a denim rabbit hole and came out of it now refusing to spend more than 50 bucks on a pair, I now find it asinine...

    Johnson Leathers black cowhide MC-500

Yeah once that cold weather hit, I'm sure people are flocking in now, although talking with them they said they're also busy when the weather gets good since people are getting their leathers ready for riding.

Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

Yeah that is odd, I have my speculations but I'm not here to be a fanboi because frankly I'd want an explanation too. Also, I was actually considering buying a 5 Star jacket for a gift for my brother, so hearing all of your positive reviews is encouraging.

Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

Yeah, from what I read on their site, the HHs are in the 300s going into the 400s, but at 1.3k that's still 3x more, so duely noted. I actually remember seeing your thread when I was researching my first jacket, and it was largely an inspiration for mine, lol. Yeah, that is weird with the...

    Johnson Leathers black cowhide MC-500

Getting it skived, I don't need a 3.5oz jacket, I want something I can get a lot of use here with our climate. Yeah you and me both, might be a minute, I think I was supposed to get my fit jacket this week but so far no go.

Five Star Leather vs Johnson Leather for Custom Jackets

Hmm, my math says 2 maybe 3x, but 4x definitely not. I perused 5 Star and a jacket with HH alone can get into the 300s, I'm not entirely sure what a one off custom will run but I'm operating that a HH jacket will run into the 300s before shipping and all that. What Jin mentioned is about what I...

    Johnson Leathers black cowhide MC-500

Yeah I'm thinking that since this is going to be a more comfort fit, buttoned jacket, I should be fine with the CXL. My crosszip though, if anything I should've went with a lighter horsehide, like this German stuff they got now, stuff is amazing. But I'm still happy with the naked 3oz cow.
