The plan, as of now, is to open a hat studio in early 2020 upon my retirement. Not a retail space per se, but rather a working studio that will be open to walk in customers. We'll see how that goes.
That all sounds good Brent. I would commit to six bodies for my stock. In the meantime, I'll talk to the folks at Winchester and put together some firm numbers for you.
I would love to get my hands on few of those Blue Smoke ( or dove gray, or limestone for that matter) felts Brent. Just say the word and I'll be ready. I came very close to ordering a 36 body run of the Blue Smoke just for my stock, but ended up ordering a sweatband sewing machine instead so...
No retirement yet Max. I am the director of an addiction treatment center and find the work too personally rewarding to ever fully retire from. Semi-retirement is right around the corner though. I'm also the proprietor of several other small businesses in addition to the PHC. I do still manage...
It's a process whereby a hot pad (luring pad) is used with the hatter's choice of oil to replenish the oils that are stripped from the fur in the felting process. Much the same as using conditioner on one's hair. Here's a brief pictorial on page 8 of my thread...
Hah! That's a beauty Terry and it doesn't look like you'll even have to break out the rounding jack. Truth be told, I love that hat and want one just like it. I figure it couldn't hurt to bring a little Gandalf magic into the hat shop.

Sorry for this repost of sorts, but it just tickles me to no end that a set of my handmade hatter's tools is now in the capable hands of a very talented lady hatter in Bucharest, Romania. If you get a moment, check out her Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/decorinahats/
Not to my knowledge Bill. The current Winchester offering is decidedly more black than cherry. You might be able find a hatter that has a few of the older production hat bodies lying around. Good luck with your search.
Of course, the real victim here will be the uneducated ebay buyer who believes the unsubstantiated hype and patently false information in the listing and actually pulls the thousand dollar trigger on that hat. In the immortal words of Clubber Lang, "I pity the fool".
Welcome to the Lounge Barak Ness. It's hard to tell if your actually looking for information to help determine the age and value of your hat or if you're trying (unsuccessfully in this case) to support a conclusion you've already reached. Even if you take your hat completely out of the equation...
