It's generally agreed that the "golden age" for quality lasted considerably longer at Borsalino than most other hatmakers, is it not?
In flipping through this thread, I see another lounger purchased a "Daino" a few years ago, a hat for which the styling looks identical to my eye apart from...
Well, I finally managed to claw my way into this exclusive club thanks to a fellow Lounger - this is my first Borsalino. It's not in mind condition, obviously, but it's a hat that seems to look better on the head than on the hook if you know what I mean - it has a rakish quality that I quite...
Beautiful day for a beautiful fedora in LA today (perfect time for me to visit) so I brought out the new-to-me Stetson 3x Beaver for a Tatauje and an espresso on my pal Ziggy's deck.
Thanks, Gents! I'm very pleased with that purchase. A legit early-mid 50s Stetson with those proportions in that condition for comfortably under three figures is a good thing.
Picked up this beautiful near-mint 3X Beaver "Selv-Edge" Stetson today - no moth nibbles, only one tiny mark on the felt.. It's almost moss green in natural light, with a 5" crown and 2 3/8 brim. There are no company tags under the sweatband so I have no idea of the official color or the model...
Thanks! I neglected to mention that it's a "Selv-Edge" - does that impact your thinking at all? That's still during the good years for Stetson, I assume? I'm very impressed by this lid.
I just picked this one up - it's a 3X Beaver dress hat with no company tags under the sweat, but I'd be curious to get any input on the date. I'm thinking early-mid 50's based on the dimensions and the crest on the sweat and liner - it's a mix of the the scoliosis and straight-backed beaver...
If it were just a 7-1/4...
Jonny, is it definitely gray? In the top pic it looks sort of brown, but I know photos can be deceptive.
Anyone got a guess on the date? Maybe early 60's?
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone would care to offer an informed opinion on general quality of British hats from the 60's - specifically under the Christys label. It seems a given that the real vintage stuff is going to be considerably better than the modern make...
I asked this on the other thread about Stetsons, but how receptive are most of the clones from bygone days - say the 60s - likely to be for reshaping the crown? There seem to be a good number of them available from that era, many with a cattleman's crease. Is it possible to generalize, or will...
Hello, all. I'm pretty new here as you can see. I'm a lifelong hat lover, but just now starting to want to graduate to the quality stuff. As it happens I'm also currently limited in my financial wherewithal, and living in Tokyo where half the Ebayers won't ship at all, and most of the rest...
