Last time I drove that route towards Knoxville, I left Crockett at midnight, then went east to Nacadoches and was in Shreveport before dawn.. not a bad route, just not real exciting
US 59 is basically being upgraded to eventually be converted to an Interstate northeast out of Houston. Pretty soon it will be extended into Louisiana where youll be able to jump onto I49 and zip up to Shreveport and i20. Currently you get ALMOST to the Louisiana border and then have to take 59...
I based the shaping using my Akubra Lawson, so I can use it on up to 4" wide brims. Its a heavy chunk of lumber, but it sure simplifies brim ironing on non snap brims
This was a perfect hat for the ironing brim block I made a while back. Found pictures of such Ironing flanges in an old hat repair manual, but had never actually seen on in real life... so I made one. Perfect if you like the outback brim down all around instead of a snap brim. Think this ones...
Im in Crockett, Tx. Find Centerville about 1/2 way between Houston and Dallas on I45, then take right and go east 40 miles or so. One of the best grills here (Davy Crockett Bar and Grill)has all fresh made stuff ( no prepackaged plastic food.... Monstorous Catfish filets, great Ribeyes...
Amazed me as well.... All three times it went from Sydney, to Chicago, to Dallas to me here in the middle of nowhere East Texas within 7-8 days.... I cant get things here from Houston 90 miles away in less than two weeks lol
There a Salvation Army Store online in Australia (think its called SALVO?) where I found a couple Austrailian Only market Akubra hats, or hats in colors I hadnt seen over here. They list on Ebay pretty frequently. There is another Austrailian thrift store named Buddys.vintage that lists on...
Was this the missing hat? Sometimes I dont watch the shipping tracking... too nerve racking. A couple years ago I had some equipment coming from Connecticut to Texas... It went to Atlanta, to Dallas, then LA, then Kansas City, then BACK TO Conn! USPS never technically lost it since they always...
I got the plug and cord cleaned up and it looks a lot nicer now. I m glad the heating unit works fine, but I now that it looks better Im happy to use it without heat and avoid potential disaster. The design on the base really does look cool after a bit of cleaning
Big relief... the tape / glue spots on the brim are just about gone. Looks way better with about a pound of dust brushed off! This should end up pretty nice. Really soft felt, really comfy fit, and I love the color
Mailman just dropped off my latest ebay gamble. A Graphite color Stetson Soverign Firenze. My first thought was " thats a mighty slim box" lol. The dog thought is was a strange shape for a hat box too (either that or there used to be something with a strange smell in the box lol)
First...
Time to expand our hat related knowledge! Does anyone have a solid guess for the age of this J&L Hat Stretcher? Its cleaning up nicely, and functions great, but there are no dates or patents listed anywhere. No plastic anywhere... all metal. It looks to me like the power cord may have been...
Someone may have posted this here before, but heres a link to a cool old hat repair manual. I bought a cd of this book online, but the version at this link actually has a few more chapters. Interesting read
