Finally finished up "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and have now moved on to "Dog is Love: Why and How Your Dog Loves You." Only a couple chapters in so far, but it's *leagues* shorter than the last book I read, so it shouldn't take nearly as long.
Thanks! I'd love to do more, but Golden Era photos of my area are extremely difficult to come by. There's a few more I have available from a book I was able to purchase of old postcard photos of my county, but most of the photos in there showed areas that have since been developed beyond...
I imagine it may happen in my lifetime, but at the same time I can't imagine it being so, as many many many people of lower economic status depend on physical cash. From the kids peddling lemonade on the sidewalk, to the old panhandler outside a McDonald's looking to scrape up enough change for...
Reminds me of the quote "I love Jesus, it's his fanclub that I can't stand." I want to say it was George Carlin, but I can't find any concrete attribution to a singular person.
Who says we aren't? We slave away all day so that the cat can live a better life than us.
Incidentally, the Jesus of...
Reminds me of Mix's Trading Post down in Utica, IL, with a hodgepodge of just about every kind of roadside trinketry from biker gear, to knives/antiques, and even DIY leatherworks supplies. It's a must-stop every time I make a trip down to hike at Starved Rock State Park or Matthiessen State Park.
My last bottle of Weihenstephaner weissbier. I picked up a six pack to try last time I was at the store. It's pretty good, and a bit heavier than your average summer lager, but not as heavy as the usual dark beers I enjoy in the fall and winter.
Around here, I only see kids wearing galoshes or rainboots. Like you said, most people just walk in the rain with their regular shoes. Personally, I prefer to wear my leather work boots if I can.
Funny thing about logistics, is many shipping companies, USPS included, consider it cheaper and faster to simply send packages to crossdock facilities in the wrong area, where it will then become somebody else's problem. For instance, a seller on eBay will ship via FedEx, but FedEx finds it...
Spielberg and Lucas combined make up almost my entire childhood (throw James Cameron in there for the complete package). Some of my favorite movies growing up we done by Spielberg, including Jurassic Park, Raiders, ET, and Jaws. Spielberg has cemented himself as a cinematic god in my eyes. The...
Evil Dead (1981) - My friends all rave about this one, and while the effects are pretty good, just about everything else was hokey 80s horror. Some have called it a dark comedy, but it produced nothing even close to a chuckle to me. A couple times I was tempted to turn it off, and ended up...
Purchased this repro AfrikaKorps M40 field jacket by Mil-Tec, no patches on it of course. If it weren't for the white trim on the epaulettes, you could easily mistake it for a safari jacket. I find it a better cut than the field jackets worn by the Allied forces, which had a roomier waist, and...
