Being a big trilby/fedora wearer I don't think a Homburg works with any kind of leather jacket. I have tried one in the hat shop wearing my Teamster and Barnstormer but personally I think they are more suited to wool overcoats etc. They just look too much like old fashioned fancy dress...
Now then, what have I ordered and what do I want?
Well I guess I only buy a new one every 4 years or so and as last year I bought my Thunderbay I guess I have another 3 years to go. Well maybe not quite.
As to potential jackets, we will have to see what comes up that takes my fancy.
Desperately...
The thing is, if you could look to the future, every item you see worth a ton of money would be worth little if there was a glut of it. And if you kept everything that you thought may be valuable one day I am sure we would all have a house cluttered up with junk. Indeed look at all the 'Limited...
I had some the same but the zips were all shot.
At the time nobody was interested in them, cost me £10. I ended up making all sorts of things from them. I kept the best parts for a B3 if ever I needed one repairing, the pockets I had hoped to play around with on another old jacket, the buckles...
Looks like a good event, shame it's in the USA but we have a lot like of that here too, though ours tends to be a lot of WWII inspiration with a mixture of our adopted versions of Hot Rod and Rockabilly culture :)
Would still have been nice to have had the link in the original post though ;)
Agreed, what's going on? What's the point of starting a topic with no details.
The Reef? Great Barrier or?
Is it private or just posted like this to get the curious in? I may have a second look but if nothing actually interesting is posted, well........
Thats a great one Willy. Looking how flat the arms are I suspect it has been stored with half a ton of other stuff on top of it. I doubt it would ever drape naturally even if you boiled it in leather restorer.
As Andrew says, a generous fit, but then again you are meant to wear bulky uniform tunics etc under this gear, not just a T or other shirt as most of us do.
So how does a modern compare to an original. Lets say 44(repro maker not important here) compare to a similar sized original, for that size...
Funny how sellers everywhere advertise their Genuine vintage clothing items as from a "Smoke and Pet free home". When you look at old news clips or films from the so called golden era so many people smoked, and right up to the 1990s too. So that old Aero etc that is 20+ years old may now be from...
My view on ' Golden era' clothing is this, and remember it is only my view. It has to fit in with certain modern clothing.
I don't want to walk down the street with the public thinking I look like John Boy Walton's dad or that I am idolising Indiana Jones. So if modern Levi 501s or Wranglers...
It can depend what you are into I expect.
If a friend had asked me to join a reenactment group a few(lot) of years back, I would be a bit put out if after paying the big money found out I was not really into the 100% authentic look the group aimed for.
If on the other hand I bought a cheap...
Yes ok, but as the topic title was eBay fees I thought your comment was about, eBay.
And while we are at it don't ever accept Paypal and let a buyer on or off eBay collect the thing from your home address, make sure it is cash only as they can then claim they never received the item and you have...
I was just about finished with this thread, then this came up.
First look at what it is really for. As it's title say's Friends and family, they probably would not rip you off.
Next up. Buyer/Seller protection. It is far harder for a seller to claim and get their money back than it is for a...
Seen a few, mainly in Paris 'vintage' shops and a few over here, as you say usually blue. I have not seen that chest pocket arrangement but usually with an MA1 style shoulder/sleeve pen pocket and an A2 style collar.
Yes I knew that haha.
What we need to do is get members to buy a new jacket on the same day, wear it and abuse it then after say 5 years smother it in preferred treatment. Oil it up regularly every year then for the next 30-40 years then come back with the results.
And the winner is............
Well I used Ko Cho on my Battersea Contract Aero A2 for 35 years and on my original WWII Lucky 7 Seven A2 for nearly as long and there is nothing wrong with any of the stitching. Only recommended by me and the guy selling it for horse tack. if it's good enough to take a bit of horse spit and...
Hey don't forget all us 50 year old 15 stone '2nd Lt' reenactors from Basildon(UK) out there. We need to get the look right so folks can see how it was back in the day:cool:
