I was going to say, from what I see on the brim, it reminds me of a " Dobbs, Coconut weave" I had once.
Welcome to the Lounge, like your Les Paul in your avatar!
Cindy, thanks for the words, especially on the edge binding, it's a tremendous amount of work , especially when you've already basted a binding on to find out you stretched it .
Me, I'm human....I make errors, fitting a brim binding isn't easy, and sometimes you do it 2 or 3 times to nail the...
Luckily I have a friend who does not mind doing this for me, here. I've always had a hard time doing it. A process....time wise.
Meanwhile I keep a portfolio going on Instagram, #alleykathatco
And my friend uploads to the lounge for me as a curtosey, so I can keep busy making hats. Looking at...
Mien also!
Seriously though, not being able to find vintage hats in my size is one very big reason that I wanted to master making them. Now if I can just get myself in line......I sold RJR my very first, pre-cane, hat. A man has got to do what he got to do to feed his beloved dogs.
Hi Bob, sad news there.... the company does fantastic work, but we hit a snag. The tip cut , round versus oval became the issue; and the liners will not lay flat against the felt crown interior. So we had to sadly part ways. As I learn to make my own, I am going to look into having my tips done...
7-7/8 is a challange, but I have the block!
This forces me to have to learn how to make a hat liner. I've recently had some tutorial help from a very kind gentleman hatter, who took the time to photo document and explain everything I needed to know. Kept close to the vest at his request, which...
I'm all in!
What are we doing? Lol
I am a member of a very small organization of 15 guys who have a very nice grove, Pavillion, clubhouse, full kitchen.
We can have a blast!
Good morning Bob.
Thank you very much for walking down the AlleyKat pathway. I appreciate your post, your support and kind words. It was good to speak to you and I look forward to making this 7-7/8 for you. Again, thank you.
Johnny, my friend, you are very likely the best thing that ever happened in my life; it could have not been better timed. I appreciate your words always! You helped me pick myself up, dust off the grime, and you put some tools in place for me to see, understand and use. Thank you my friend!
Thanks very much Charlie. Good to hear from you. I hope you are well!
There was much fungus amongus, this year. I only got out for a few hours on a few occasions, but ate well! Again, thanks for stopping by!
Although the brim flange does indeed begin and dictate the "cupping" , if you are edge binding, and you did not pre-shrink your ribbon, and if your closed loop was a touch on the small side; once baste stitched in place, what was minor cupping can become extream. And it becomes very obvious at...
