It's nice seeing all these hats from across the globe today.
Alan, it looks to have been a great time with Charlie. Congrats on your daughter's engagement.
Here's another lightweight VS hat, in dove-colored felt.
I have a couple of flanges that I use to tweak things a little bit. I really haven't done much to this one other than shape it by hand. The felt is very thin but takes a shape really well. These '40s-'50s Borsalinos are amazing hats.
Everyone has absolutely nailed it today.
I know this has been mentioned before but bears a repeat for newer members who may be considering doing this for the first time.
Notice how Eric has everything set up out in his yard. Be sure you do this outdoors and far away from any source of flame. Naphtha and camp fuel are not good for you...
Hard to keep up here!
Charlie, moon, Harv, Trevi, Bob, photogravity, Dave, moe--wow, gents!
Chamuco, Fruno, Joao, Eric, S-4-C, Cariduro, Perry--a shout out to all of you from earlier in the day, too, amazing stuff guys.
Here's one that I forgot to take out of the box when the warmer weather...
Since you're in Illinois, Optimo in Chicago may be your closest option. Art Fawcett at Vintage Silhouettes does refurb work, and others here on the Lounge have had good results with Black Sheep Hat Works.
Alan and Charlie, great to see you two well-hatted gents together.
Steve, beautiful Hückel.
Eric, a good looking cap and a fine old Strat. It sounds like it's got some character.
David-the application of steam softens the straw and makes it pliable. You still have to be careful pulling it down over a block because the straw weave is more fragile than felted fur. I didn't try to pull it over the block all at once, but applied steam and gradually got it there. If you're...
moon--Thanks. The OR straw comes in a cattleman's crease but I've reworked it several times with steam and a crown block. It might have saved me the trouble to have just bought a 47. But what it did is make me want another one in the original cattleman's crease. Oh, boy, it never ends....
Good looking ids today, fellas. A catch up from the last two days....
Yesterday, modern Stetson OR straw, reshaped. From what I've seen here on the Lounge, this may be the same hat body that Hatco uses for the original 47 and others.
Today, Borsalino Light Weight
Fruno--A number of folks on the Lounge have Premier Stetsonians. Here is a thread that was started when Hat-co announced the release of the Premier Stratoliner and Stetsonian models. The link is for the first page in the thread showing the receipt of a Stetsonian, and it goes forward from there...
