Yes, that makes sense. It certainly looks to be integral to the hat and sewn in along with the sweatband. It is visible externally but looks very clean. I’m not going to mess with it.
Thanks Randy! I noticed that there is a sewn in spacer in the front of around 2mm deep by 4 3/4” long. The circumference is 22” but it would gain a bit if the spacer was removed to get closer to the 7 1/8 sweet spot. :)

Here are three recent acquisitions of the 3X Beaver W220 HI-7 western hat in Cordova — a deep burgundy color. Brim is 4” and open crown is 7”. The felt is sturdy and shapable (with steam) as I’ve attempted to show with a different style for each hat.
