We can bat this around forever. The only time NOT taking off a hat is functionally rude is when it blocks someone's view.
All other instances have to be taught and the offense taken by not removing the hat is your choice.
My expressed opinions do not mean that I do not take off my hat in many...
I'm 56 and have worn hats since I was a child continuously. My etiquette has been molded by admonitions from elders and by being uncomfortable because I removed a hat when the peers didn't. I remove a fedora much more frequently than a western.
I will say that I wear mostly western hats...
I think etiquette is entirely contextual. I practice it that way. To do otherwise is to make it an act that is only affectatious and is only a caricature of etiquette.
Example: you enter a church where no others are wearing any head cover and you take off yours. This is practical relevant...
The safety factor of hat wearing is HUGE.
If I am in a low overhang area with a hat on I am ever watchful of anything touching the hat. Take that hat off and I'll bump my head into things multiple times. My head is much more valuable with a hat on it.
I think we're giving hat etiquette a...
"In fact, I sort of said that the worst generation was MY generation: the woeful Baby Boomers.
If any generation destroyed this country it was them. "
I'm right in the middle of the BB'ers era and I wear my hat in church! It is a cowboy church and everyone else does too including the pastor...
I trust that members here all exhibit proper to the situation etiquette. I would say my expression of it is thoughtful but I also temper that with the fact that I have hats to wear on my head. Having them sit on hooks, in chairs, under my arm, or in my hands when it is of no consequence to...
For some topics that get repeated I do think it is beating a dead horse. We get enough membership turnover, at least in participation, that every time this one comes up there are many new participants and the responses have some of the same and also some new. I am enjoying this one as much as...
I am 56 years old and have been around hats all my life. I do not traditional hat etiquette.
I also know that hat etiquette has roots in mores of more than 100 years ago. No one is born thinking a hat has to come off inside. You have to be taught to take offense at someone keeping a hat on...
I look at this photo and the Mutual Of Omaha Wild Kingdom theme music plays and I hear Marlin Perkins telling me about some animal that got caught and devoured and how I too could get caught and devoured and need M of O life Insurance.
I thought it was Alan from Buffalo. I guess it is now Alan...
Do you think that Indy in a ball cap with a frayed bill edge would have basically started bespoke ball cap businesses and web sites dedicated to frayed bill ball caps? We will never know.......
7 1/8, 7 1/4, 7 3/8 are the highest concentration of head sizes per the hat manager at a large western wear seller near me.
He said the 7 3/8 size leads the 7 1/8 now but 35 years ago 7 1/8 out sold 7 3/8. 7 1/4 is his best and always was.
This is the results for north Texas. Ethnicity drives...
Johnny Depp may not know his hat size but I would wager some bucks that his people know his hat size to two decimal places.
I'm a fan just because he is a hat guy.
A Toyota Camry and a Lexus ES350 share huge amounts of pieces under the sheetmetal. The details and some materials used to finish the Lexus are different. Some of the rest of the price difference is brand value.
This same situation exists in consumer products over and over.
There are different...
I'm surprised Nick Fouquet hasn't been mentioned here more.
Nice hats in his photos.
I think he may have the formula to make hats cool for millenials. He sure wears them well. I like his rogue fashion sense with his hats.
Any of young'uns think he appeals to your peers?
