I think there is a time machine you guys are using to go back and buy brand new hats 50 or more years in the past. I NEVER find hats in the pristine unworn shape I see posted here. Short Balding Guy I'm convinced has one under the evergreen tree he uses as hat photo backdrop.
Any merchandise that is meant to not compete with retail or to not diminish retail price point can be seconds. If they made a distinction then you have overproduction for order quantity and promotional display items that have no defects as well as the regular quality fail items. The hat outlet...
With a touch of flanging you could pass the Amish hats off as Nevada Basin Buckaroo headgear.
Love this insight into these niches of the hat wearing world.
Seconds have had a hole punched in the rear of sweatband near the seam of sweatband for many decades. At least north American hat manufacturers.
This marked them for distribution through their outlet store or other sellers of their seconds while being handled in factory.
I guess if there was nicotine or some other buzz producing drugs in flatulence then we'd have fart bars.
Wait a minute, I think they used to exist in the old west according to the scene from Blazing Saddles.
I have never bought a vintage hat on Ebay that came out of the box smelling like that.
I have a liner marked Whippet that is sweatband marked Royal Stetson. I think Whippets were lower priced than Royal Deluxe Stetson at the time they were sold.
If they made Whippets today from the felt of their recent Royal Deluxe Stetsons it would be hell of a hat. I bought a Royal Deluxe at...
You don't list brand(s) but if they are Resistol then you can get factory replaced sweats for $25. I think they cut and size sweats in house so the size should not be a problem. They also replace liner when they do the sweat for the $25 fee. Contact Resistol Hat outlet in Garland Texas (972)...

what is the trick to jump to latest entry to the thread? I see the last person posting with date and time on right but no icon to click to do that function
Hmmmmmm. Oregon does have the beaver moniker but did they ever have a hat maker's presence in the past? No brands I know of were made there. I've never been aware of Oregon being a trapper's haven either.
Now I know where the idea to spray shellac on a hat came from.
And taking sandpaper to one.
If you added one of these to your collection then you have to worry about moths and termites.
Do you stuff a wooden hat with felt to keep it from shrinking?
I have no idea how this got double posted 2 1/2 hours apart. I wiped it out.
Andy R, What I posted in quotes was a partial quote of an earlier post of another members to preface my post about cowboy church and the hats on in a church practiced there.
"Christian churches, as a rule, regard it as disrespectful for men to wear a hat while in the premises - the reverse of the Jewish tradition (I've been requested before now to wear a Yarmulke when visiting synagogues; the only problem I ever had with that was keeping it on. Lack of hair to clip...
Spousey has 17 horses and I do the horseshoeing, barn repair, truck repair, trailer repair, and some cooking. I have 4 hats (at least) for every horse and nothing has been said. I wonder what hat per horse ratio gets me in trouble?
