A n A, That OR is awesome.
I have not figured out the time travel thing some of you have. I think that is the only way some of these brand new 50 t0 80 year old lids could show up today in the condition they are in.
Thanks for the compliments.
It is a Royal Stetson with no name markings of any kind anywhere on it. Maybe one of you can say what it is from something in the photos. Porter's Birmingham AL is the store stamp.
"on the head is my most frequent method of carry" ditto for this.
If it blocks someone's view then hold it. Movie theatres are where this applies unless there is no one behind you, then keep it on.
You can wear western boots and drive Volvos. I do it every day. Almost always wearing a western hat for that matter. If not a western then a fedora. Wearing a larger brimmed hat while driving is a safety feature. No need to take hands off wheel to move sun visor, you just tip your head in the...
I think the explanations are pretty complete but my 2 cents: The hats you posted are the type men of your grand-dad's era wore most everywhere while dressed casual to going to church clothes. His generation almost universally wore hats every day until hat wearing diminished in the post WWII...
I was tuned into Decades channel and they have The Untouchables in the lineup on Fri nights.
That show is a great showcase of hats. Low crown, medium crown, high crown, medium brim, wide brim, raw edge, bound edge, and bashes of all varieties.
Most certainly not the show to watch to suppress...
You have some fantastic hats and I now know the secret. Off to Africa to find one of those elusive tribes with the head-shrinkers of Three Stooges lore.
I've wasted a lot of money on western straw hats and the most use and durability for a often worn (daily) straw is an Atwood palm leaf. I never found vent holes to make any difference. I do find that the bangora, etc., with the open weave area in the crown can be cooler but gain not by a great...
If I were the rich businessman the first thing I would do is try to coax Eric to sell a few of his AWESOME lids. If he won't budge then maybe I could hire him as my hat purchasing agent. I also would would have a few of the hatters on here on retainer. I would also immediately acquire a large...
Pouncing (sanding). The result will vary depending on the felt. The Resistol Black Gold is a good quality beaver/rabbit blend body and ends up with a very velvetty finish most of the time. I have had several over the last 30 years and most were great but a couple were not up to the same standard...
