Old, local hatter told me that once the sweatband goes in, the heat to the leather should be avoided at all cost, steam or heated stretcher.
I've always avoided heating a sweatband directly, always do that area from the felt side. YMMV....
Mine has just 3 but my hat multiplier is considerably higher than yours! I don't shoe or trim hooves but do those other chores plus a few more.
You have my considerable compliments, Sir! I stay in trouble so being in it for another hat is a minor offense in my book...
Any "skilled hatter" can take a vintage fedora, reduce it to just a felt body & re-block, re-size, re-flange it.
The challenge is where the sweat is stitched in becomes a weak point when pulling the felt body over the block, sort of like perforated paper = easy to tear.
Now the question is why...
Akubra is my brand of choice for a good using hat around the ranch, camping, hiking, hunting, etc. for cooler months. I take the liner out for warmer seasons.
I do have an ArtLite custom in undyed natural beaver with vent holes that gets used during the hot summer months.
Then you don't understand how they are working with the flange....
I put my new Strats in the old boxes to get the benefits of that horrible design....
I've got one at 2 7/8" but it needs binding or welting to give it some structure.
I've worn it in the rain to no ill effects. It is my main "using" ArtLite = undyed natural beaver with vented crown...
No, totally different with the points of the horseshoe pointing to the rear of the crown with no real pinch up front.
My bad, got it backwards, still no real pinch though...
