Those are really nice looking. But they'll be too thin for use on my hat. They're thinner than the leather strip I'll be removing & won't cover the stitching.
I like my Stetson Roadster hat in Royal Deluxe so much that I just picked up a 2nd one. LOL
This time, I'm thinking of replacing the leather hatband with a thin ribbon along the lines of the Open Road or Stratoliner.
All my searches for "how to install or replace ribbons" turn up instructions...
Waiting for a modern Stetson Whippet in Royal Deluxe. I just couldn't turn down the 25% off sale & free shipping at JJ Hat's.
Christmas in July 25% off sale code = Cheer
and the ever present Fedora Lounge drumbeat continues; "Unless it's custom, modern hats suck OR go vintage or go home"
My modern Steston and Akubra hats suit me just fine for wearing everyday.
Since Tapatalk no longer plays well with the lounge, I haven't posted photos
But for my daily 5 mile hike, it's always my Akubra Banjo Peterson... For just about all other occasions, I wear my Stetson Roadster that's been converted a bit. See the Roadster section to see pics of the conversion.
since Tapatalk stopped playing nice with this forum, I haven't figured out how to post pics.
For my daily 5 mile morning hike in the woods, it's always my Akubra Heritage Fawn Banjo Patterson.
For just about everything else, I wear my converted Stetson Roadster in Walnut. I posted pics of the...
Ben has taken over running Delmonico Hatter since his Dad passed several years ago. Ben's a nice guy and may have gotten the information from his Dad. No telling if any of it ever came from Stetson or a rep.
It was definitely interesting to hear a detailed description of the differences.
It's my understanding that all of them except for the "travel" or possibly the Straw / Hemp hats have them. But this doesn't include much older "vintage" Akubra's
Easy enough to figure out if it has the wire is to follow my previous post... gently separate the leather hat band at the back of...
I had a chance to try a Dune in Acorn on in person this morning to finally resolve my intrigue about this hat.
It didn't take me long to conclude that it's just too much hat for me.
As much as I like the idea of a hat with more than a 3 inch brim, it's just not right for me. Definitely not...
Delmonico Hatter in New Haven is having a 15% off sale on everything until the end of July.. Since they're within 30 minutes of me, I like to stop in and see what's going on & see what's also on deep discount sales for walk in only.
I was checking out some hats and asked about the difference...
All the Akubra hat's have piano wire in the Reed.
My hunch is that it's there to help maintain shape. I've removed the wire from all of mine. It seems to help with the hat confirming to my head shape.
If you separate the leather in the band slightly near the back. You'll find a brass...
I'm currently on the fence as whether or not the Dune is too western looking for me. What I really want is a non cowboy looking hat with close to a 3 inch brim.
If I do pull the trigger and buy the Dune. I'm thinking about removing the leather hat band and putting a grosgrain hatband on it...
Delmonico Hatter in New Haven CT is a dealer in Akubra's. I'm fortunate to live close by to be able to try out hats.
They're having a 15% off sale until the end of July.. Special code is on their website to add when ordering.
Hat Direct AKA The Hattery has also been awesome for me. I'm a 58.3...
Way back when, most men knew how to crease their own hats. Plus, there were enough hat stores around that you could get them cleaned and blocked.
Plus if you go by those old hats in the old movies, not all of them were the tall crowns with stovepipe straight / zero taper.
The great thing is...
