I was watching a marathon showing of the show American Pickers yesterday.
The duo were in Paris Texas and Frank wanted a "westen hat". They stopped in at Paris Hatters.
He tried out a 10X Stetson hat. It was an older episode because the 10X cost $350. .Frank was concerned about the...
My Rambler cap has a bit of fluff or puffiness to the body of the cap. It needs to be sat on or stuffed in a pocket to flatten it out.
I've got my eye on a couple of their caps to add to my collection.
Final late arriving Christmas present.
Wearing a Gamble and Gunn newsboy for my 4 mile hike in 4 degree F and a -10 wind-chill.
Gamble and Gunn calls it mid blue Donegal cap.
This has to be the warmest cap I've ever owned.
FYI Ear muffs are separate and not part of the cap.
Mrs. Claus ordered a Sterkowski cap and a Gamble & Gunn cap as a Christmas present. The reindeer have stopped numerous times for a rest. I've been watching tracking details regularly. Pics as soon as they arrive.
I agree, watch some of Kevin's videos on cleaning, steaming hats. Read some of the posts here on caring for the leather sweat band. You'll need some patience and my bet is that the hat will be fine.
$110 for a cleaning, reblocking is a very reasonable price.
Worst case scenario is that...
I'm a big fan of Kevin and his YouTube channel.
But he's a salesman at heart. Avaliablilty plays a big role in his likes and dislikes.
I'm not sure if Borsalino is really improved or they're available to JJ hats.
Kevin has recently pointed out QC issues in Stetson and is pushing Selentino...
My akubra banjo Patterson is 3 years old. I've lost count of how many times it's been soaked from rain, snow during daily hikes. It's been soaked like Stevie Ray Vaughn couldn't stand the weather video a lot. In heavy wind, the front brim does the flap like John Wayne hat in The Searchers...
Vintage hats have always been dead to me. After seeing the moth invested / buggy / filthy hats at "antique shops" or consignment shops. I have no desire to own them. I certainly wouldn't take a chance buying a high priced"vintage" fedora on Flea-bay or other places.
All my hats are...
I'm in the only enough hats to serve a purpose camp. I found a style / model that I liked and bought it in other colors.
Stetson Roadster in walnut & sage green is my daily hat of choice. I did remove the leather hat band on them and replaced it with a 1 inch ribbon.
Akubra Banjo...
The front brim on my Roadster was getting pretty finicky. Flange was good & it looked good snapped up.
But when I snapped it down, it'd dip and then go almost straight out. Ignoring conventional wisdom of preserving the curve or snapping it up when not wearing it.
I decided to steam it...
It's okay. There's a lot of us lurkers here who like hats as utility & aren't interested in the collecting or bespoke attire aspect. ☺
Keep on trucking ✌
Delmonico hatter's is having a 15% off sale on all panama hats. It's a great day here in CT, so I took a drive down to New Haven to visit the store
Ben humoured me while I tried on just about every price range of Panama's in the store. Lots of great hats to choose from. But a Scala worked...
