I recently bought a tweed jacket made by Nigel Cabourn. It’s a limited edition based on an original worn by Edward Atkinson, the surgeon on the ill-fated Scott expedition to the South Pole in 1912.
I really like this pattern: typically Edwardian with narrow lapels, slight waist, fixed half...
And that, is how that B-3 has to be worn IMHO. Ignore the eye watering expense and let it get well broken in and a bit grubby.
I could never understand what people saw in these jackets because they always look pristine and too mannered in the images.
Now I understand the appeal, this looks...
Really changeable weather pattern in the West Country this week. Cool, but dry, sunny, and warmer today. Sadly, too warm for the Journeyman today so goatskin Monarch with olive green moleskin newsboy cap (Laird Hatters). Goat is breaking in well.
Thank you! Wetter, cooler weather in the West Country now so autumn is on its way.
Time to put the cotton drill clothing away and break out the corduroy, moleskin, and tweed... :)
Raining stair rods in Bristol this morning and thunderstorms forecast later today. Still the warmest, most comfortable leather coat that I have ever owned: Freewheelers Journeyman in jet black deerskin. With woollen ‘Canvey’ cap by Old Town (also pullover shirt by Darcy Clothing, Fairisle...

So, back to the Monarch.
One of my favourite jackets once the weather turns cooler: Fitzrovia jacket in olive green corduroy by Old Town. Sadly no longer available, this is a ‘20s influenced design with neatly profiled lapels with revers, trademark cuff shape , flapped pockets, and figured back. Great fabric that can...
Salutary lesson for those of us who use EBAY for ‘bargains’ and are willing to go the extra mile with research (spoilers: use local knowledge).
I recently bought a really nice Surgeon’s jacket in brown corduroy by Nigel Cabourn (modelled loosely on the half belted Norfolk jacket worn by Dr...
No, I went aboard the bridge of QM as a babe in arms ahead of her final voyage from Southampton, but these modern liners just leave me cold - they look like glorified container vessels...
Very forlorn, but not whether this is any worse than the RMS Queen Mary (on which my late father served) done up like mutton dressed as lamb and populated by Disney World staff all pretending to be Dick Van Dyke in Cunard costumes.
