Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

I've been getting hit on a lot recently. I blame this new "catcall" culture we're starting to have. And it seems to happen more when I wear something vintage style. Everything from "Will you be my teacher!" to "Hey Baby!" I'm actually kinda invisible when I wear skinny jeans and a T.

Amusing quotes from people mis-dating you

Everyone insists I am "rockabilly" and I only listen to "rockabilly" music. While it is one of the many things I like, it's not the center of my life. I dress more late 30s than anything else. Must be the tattoos (which are all 20s-30s themed, btw). lol

First sewing projects should always be done with cheap fabric and with a cheap, modern pattern you don't care about ;)

Thank you! I love sewing! I stopped because I gained 30 lbs and no standard vintage patterns that I had fit me. I put the needles away for about a year :( But I shed the weight and I've been sewing like crazy this year! I only post the 30s-40s stuff in here, but I sew the entire century...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

One of my neighbors said "Are you in 1943?!" (as a compliment). I get excited when I get the proper time period!! It beats "Grease" all the time :)

    Best beauty decision you've made?

Running. Great for the waist and the anxiety I suffer. Sewing. Particularly opening myself up to pretty much all the decades from the 20s to the 70s and doing myself up accordingly. For a while I was only sewing 30s and 40s. Growing out my bob and bangs. Had that hairstyle since 2001! I...

    Lipstick in the heel

I say NAY to this one lol If it unscrewed from the bottom -- eew! Those heels go on the ground where there is all kinds of unpleasant matter! If it was accessed from inside -- eeew! Your sweaty foot was in there! I hate feet lol

I made something relevant to this message board! lol I make all kinds of things from the 20s to now, but I had been sewing lots of 60s and 70s things which I stopped showing on here because they're aren't the correct era. But I made a dress from 1942: There is a shop stamp on the...

I buy mine in stores like Jo-Ann or local fabric shops. I like to feel before I buy. I admit I'm not a fabric connoisseur lol

    Ladies show us your best.

Looking good everyone! I haven't dresses 40s in a while (been doing 60s and 70s a lot lately). I went out like this last night and nothing but compliments!

FANTASTIC! Thank you! I'm thrilled this thing works. I'm still trying to tune into a 40s station lol I know they have to be out there!

How many colors have you dyed your hair?

Every color but brown. A Cyndi Lauper obsession when I was 9 got me to dye my hair bright orange! I remember I went to school and my teacher screamed lol Been flying my freak flag ever since.

Amusing quotes from people mis-dating you

My favorite will always be: "I thought you were religious until I saw your tattoos." "Religious" = Amish. Other than this, I just seem to get the same "Grease" comments over and over. I wear 30s, early 40s, and late 60s, early 70s. None of which resemble Grease, but I always take it...
