I literally have no idea what the people in the "scene" are like now. I know two are into death metal. One is super goth. ANother is way into Star Wars cosplay. They are now late 40s/early 50s and I think they outgrew it all. Like me, they are just living their lives.
I just looked up a former member on here who dressed head to toe early 1950s. She's selling all her stuff off and now dresses modern. SHe still loves 50s stuff, but just not her life anymore.
I was "too rockabilly for school" in the 00s and early 10s in Philadelphia, but I always supported the newbies. The others in that "clique" would mock a newbie when they got up from the table. When I started to shift to more 60s and 70s looks, I was then shunned. That scene is now 10000%...
Edward said many people have contempt for their former vintage selves. I experienced this. I still see snobbery in "antique" and "vintage" areas. Total turn off. Explain to people what is correct instead of mocking them. They've all turned people off to "The Golden Era". I notice Gen Z...
I saved all my pre-1940s patterns and the newer ones I MIGHT make or if I REALLY liked it lol. I went from 4 huge plastic bins to one small one. Cleared up and ENTIRE CORNER in my basement. I also had my 1940s buffet STUFFED with them. Once unstuffed, I had room to put all the family photos...
I just donated about 200 vintage sewing patterns to a craft/sewing store. I'm slowly getting rid of vintage dresses I know I'll NEVER wear. Got rid of all my "rockabilly" hair trinkets and jewelry. I used to think it was my "duty" to save such stuff from the "evil" younger generations that...
I don't like fall. I'm in the minority, I know lol. I hate it when it gets dark earlier and I have to rake and clean the chicken coop and I can't hang my clothes outside to dry for much longer.
I know this post is over a decade old, but it just popped into my head today and I'm not sure why I was singled out for such a lecture about my then "busy" life? I don't sew much anymore, though. But I have quite a collection!!!
I haven't had a microwave in YEARS. They actually freak me out a little. My BF doesn't have one, either. Heat it up in the oven -- comes out better!
I haven't had a TV in years, either. BF has one, but we pick and choose what we want to watch via YouTube mostly. He has Netflix, but I have...
I got rid of so much crap in my move from Philadelphia to Colorado Springs. It was actually liberating. I threw away allllll 564928347347 of my cassette tapes that I don't have a player for and don't even play anymore. I threw away any magazine from 2000 - now (I take after my dad hoarding...
