Nothing on them at all. While we're on the subject, I also bought these yesterday with some of the money I've made from selling antiques: Made by LeMaire of Paris. Purchased by/for the Victorian Railways.

Dressing nice in the modern world can lead to trouble?

I've never had a dangerous/violent encounter because of how I dress. Although one time I admit I blew my top at someone. I was at the flea market (this was a few years ago now) and I was haggling with a lady over...something...I forget what....and some other nosy parking old hag butts in with...

Flinders Street to be Renovated/Restored? Maybe...

Flinders Street Station is in the news. Again. Where we'll be told that it will be renovated and restored to its former, Victorian glory. Again. And that it will form a new cultural hub in the "world's most livable city". Again. I took this photograph a year or two ago during the annual...

The "SS United States" will maybe sail again?

I agree. I'll believe it when I see it. I've seen loads of these big, publicised "WE CAN DO IT!!" restoration projects just crumble to dust. Again. And again. And again. And again. I couldn't tell you how many times I've read in the local newspapers that the state government was going to...

Looking to Buy My First Suit :)

To answer your questions... 1. Got the suit from a shop. 2. We had the trouser-length altered. I insisted on doing it myself, but dad wanted his damn tailor to do it, so I let him go ahead and try. The result is what you see there. I told him it was too long, but he wouldn't listen. I've...

They are indeed French, it says so on the eyepieces, but apart from the name of the company (Rohrson) and the country of manufacture (France) there's nothing else on it. If it helps, the eyepiece lenses are 20mm across, the objective lenses are 40mm across. The exit pupil (white circle visible...

I actually have no idea. But they're pretty powerful, so I like them. How does one determine power of magnification?

Discounted to $80 for me, at a local antiques shop (there are benefits to visiting all the time. The owners get friendly with you...): Solid brass, Victorian-era antique field-glasses in EXCELLENT working condition. Replace the worn-out felt linings inside, and they function like brand-new...

Were double-breasted suits with vests once common?

I have seen the opposite (double breasted waistcoats with a singlebreasted jacket), but I think the other way around was less common.

    Blacksmithing

I don't mind saying that I think blacksmithing is one of the most amazing things ever. I wish I had the chance to do it. I think I'd love it.

Normal House on the Outside, 17th Century on the Inside!

It's interesting and very beautiful, but I agree with the sentiments that others have expressed - it doesn't look very 17th century. I love the details like the clocks, the piano, the brassware and all that stuff, though. Very beautiful.

What are the Oldest Objects you Own?

Lovely typewriters, TrenchFriend. I've always admired those beauties from the 1900s-1930s. Mechanical artistry, they are.
