    Should Men Wear Bracelets ?

One should wear what they feel comfortable with and have the confidence to do so. I wear a pocketwatch and chain whenever I go out. I've never received a negative comment about it yet. It's a great conversation-piece, if nothing else.

What do you use to shave?

Who said razors are expensive? My cheapest razor was $5. it was a cheap, German straight. It works amazingly!! :o

    Pocketwatches

Hi VC, I picked up this watch from a jewelery dealer here in Melbourne. She didn't know anything about its history or its significance - which is one reason I was able to buy it for under $200. Everything I know about the watch, I researched online, or deduced from looking at it. Everything...

    Pocketwatches

I have researched the history of the watch-model quite extensively, and I believe that it was used on the Canadian Pacific Railroad. The exact model-number (Ball Record 435c) is listed in a booklet of CPR approved watches for the 1950s. The fact that it has, as you rightly pointed out, a...

What do you use to shave?

I use a scuttle because I find I'm useless at bowl-lathering. I kept screwing it up. Using a scuttle prevented my lather from getting soaking wet.

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

Railroad watches were expected to keep very good time, since lives depended on their accuracy. I got my Ball back from the watchmaker on the 4th of this month. I don't expect the watchmaker to have done a pinpoint precision job with the timekeeping since he has so much other stuff to do, so I...

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

I remember reading something like that on the Ball official website (this was many years ago). Is it true, or not? I mean I always thought that 'On the Ball' referred to the time-balls they used to drop at observatories (to mark midday to synchronise watches and clocks). But your thing is good...

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

After a considerable wait, my prized Ball railroad watch is back home again!! Changes made... - Complete disassembly & servicing. After nearly 10 years since the last one, it was well-due for another. - New mainspring. The old one was shot! - New bow. The old one was not only very plain and...

Any expert in vintage Singer sewing machines?

My regular sewing machine is a 1936 hand-crank Singer 128 vibrating-shuttle model. I've used it for years and it works great. Those old Singers are indestructible. I promise you, it'll last a lot longer than you ever will!!

    Question About 8-Panel Caps

Hiya Folks, For reasons which I won't go into - I have lots of leftover denim - and I was thinking of using this denim to build myself a hat. Specifically - an eight-panel cap. They look relatively easy to manufacture, and I'm not in-competent when it comes to the operation of a sewing...

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

My faithful pocket watch of 10 years was due for a service and I kept telling myself I was going to do it but I kept delaying it. I think my watch finally got fed up with me. The mainspring snapped. So now I HAVE to take it in for servicing!! Unfortunately, the guy I take it to is closed until...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Here's another one... Payphones. When I was a kid, they were everywhere. But now that almost everybody in the developed world has a mobile phone, they're almost nowhere to be seen. I mean yes you can still find them. But I can't imagine anybody still uses them, unless it's a real...

Golden Era Things You've Revived Or Repaired For Use

From This... ...to this...: This antique brass tiffin carrier is about 100 years old. I bought it back in August, and I finally finished cleaning it!! I left it looking a bit aged, but at least presentable. The brass frame that holds it together was a bit wonky. Careful bending and...
