The Era -- Day By Day

Admiral Kimmel and Lt General Short were justly relieved after December 7th 1941, the date that lives forever in infamy; scapegoats, sure but both-particularly Short failed imaginative exercise of existing martial assets or any real strategic grasp of the poker faced South Pacific map. The...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

The coincidence triple play alone is remarkable but maternal instinct focuses yesterday-as opposed to present day-morals in stark reiief as though conscience is a piece of jettisoned inconvenient baggage. And the question if this film could be made today is easily answered. Perhaps too easily.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I don't believe so but he did say 'We made too many wrong mistakes.':) When I was a kid my dad returned from New York once and told me he stepped inside an elevator that held Mickey Mantle and Yogi, and I could tell he was pleasantly surprised.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

No dawg in the fight but last nite's Bills v Chiefs overtime knockdown dragout brawl proved one thing: Yogi Berra was right. It ain't over till it's over. :) ...and the Bears could have drafted Patrick Mahomes.:confused::oops::rolleyes:o_O:eek:

The Era -- Day By Day

Direct from The Tower might imply the Tower of London; wherein Edward V and brother Richard, Duke of York were murdered supposedly by order of their uncle, Richard of Gloucester, the future Richard III in 1483. Shakespeare and Sir Thomas More writ claimed Dickie did the deed. ----- Off topic...

The Era -- Day By Day

My paternal grandfather, a retired CTA electric streetcar conductor would take me to the corner of 79th and Honore Avenue and stare at the steel rails still embedded in the asphalt tar. Streetcars had preceded the buses that ran and had replaced streetcars, though horses still drew milk wagons.

Being the Ricardos - Ricky/Desi's Casual Style

I saw Being the Ricardos last week and Des definitely had a style all his own. His wardrobe not too much noticed since his style blended so perfectly with the man himself, a character I knew somewhat but not as well as I thought. Des was so much more than a straphanger second banana husband...

The Era -- Day By Day

Emerald City harken a wed munchkin couple from OZ who returned home to sweet Chicago and opened a bar around 63rd Cicero Avenue-a few scattered memories tossed in for good measure. God bless them. War news of course bleeds so leads. The Nazis overplayed their hand with Russia, North Africa...

    What Are You Reading

Another book came to mind: The Making of Casablanca; Bogart, Bergman, and World War II by Aljean Harmetz. If you haven't already read this gem it should dovetail qute well with the film. Then, a wine and cheese party to discuss book, Bogie, Bergman, and Becall if needs be. ;)

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

^The silver screen has immortalized certain women for such glory is taken, captured only in part through beauty, but largely taken by storm of emotional heartbreak. Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa in Casablanca is emblematic of inner grace, beauty, and elegance capturing eternal fame amidst historic...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I might say Roman Holiday comes to mind but HM Pulham, Esq and Ecstasy strike indelibly etched mindful images of a true princess, Hedy Lamarr. A complex cipher, enigmatic, highly intelligent, and certainly cast from European mold, Lamarr, like Ingrid Bergman stands timely testament to beauty.

The Era -- Day By Day

Cubs belated decision to install electric lights at Wrigley Field is consonant within scion dynasty ineptitude. Commercial usage of technology proved beyond the grasp of the Wrigley family. And genetic trace dissipated generational passage to really gum up the bloodline. Talk about arterial...

    The Mandela Effect

Oscar Meyer hotdogs are a staple store pickup, and of course the slogan song sticks like glue to memory, but the Miltonesque aphorism that 'The mind is its own place; and can make a Heaven of Hell; or a Hell of Heaven' rings true. I'm hope like hell they sell hot dogs in heaven. ;)

    The Agents of F.L.A.S.K.

To ward off faeries-and-Leprechauns simply carry a pat of butter in your left pocket and toss salt over left shoulder. Faeries and Leprechauns be out in force Halloween and the Feast of All Souls the next day. Salt so they cannot sneak up on ye and butter to stop Leprechaun soul steal. Sure as...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

Ex-soldier, but once ate lunch with a hundred Marines inside a Naples, Italy U.S.Navy messhall. The only soldier there, I wore khakis and spit shined Corcoran jump boots but you'd think I was a Martian alien being from outer space.:)

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

United States Marine Corps commando sweater is woven barbed wire, commo string, detonation cord, time fuse, and garrote rope. Whoever in hell told you it was wool? ;)

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

The last commando sweater I purchased came via England by way of Land's End for $40.00; expensive then, forty some years ago, but I still wear it. My advice is to shop around the net and discount brick such as Goodwill and save some quid. A good looking sweater though overpriced. Commando...
